Not a clue. I'm not holding out any hope for Bridges, is all.

I've a feeling he'd be another Paul Warhurst, anyway.

Surely not! Warhurst was ancient when we signed him. Bridges was fantastic for Carlisle in this division and he should still be hungry after all that time he missed with injuries. He'll be wanting a way back into first team football... just not with us.

I just think the injuries have fucked him. I don't reckon he'll be the same player he was before them. Players his age rarely are.

But maybe I was being harsh with the Warhurst comparison. I could've got a game that season, I reckon.

You know the old "roller coaster season" thing. Yeah, well Gillingham are having one. It's madness. 16 goals AGAINST on the road, 1 for. 1-3 down to Luton the other night in the prestigious Johnson's Paint Trophy only to win 4-3. 5-0 at Swindon last Saturday. 4-0 to Forest a fortnight before that, punctuated with a 1-1 draw at home to Leeds in between. Scally was on telly the other saying saying he actually left before the end of the Swindon game. Haha, the clown.

Anyway, yeah Gillingham. They're random.

I can't get used to football happening on Thursdays. It's all wrong.

It's nearly as bad as football happening on Fridays. Oh, that reminds me - I need to get going in a bit...

So how was it then Pete?

I have to admit I love Friday night football. Then again it's what I'm used to, in Oz they always played Friday night and they do in Ireland as well. It kind of increases the "it's the weekend!" feeling. The downside I suppose is it makes away games more awkward - then again, I'm not a big away-dayer.

It was fucking awful. We played wonderfully glorious fluent passing football in the first half and kept dobbing up all our chances and should have been 6-2 up by half time. And captain Whittle wasn't playing so when we went 2-1 down early in the second half the whole team just gave up and were completely shit for the rest of the game.

And because it was a Friday night game they had to offer cheap and free tickets to get people in. So there was a big crowd but all these ten-bob fans are the first ones to start jeering and booing the team when a pass is misplaced and turning their backs and leaving 10 or 15 minutes from the end. The fuckers should just stay the fuck away in the first place.

So to help me forget about it all on Saturday I got on the number 43 bus down the road and went to see Sheffield FC. They beat Kidsgrove Athletic 2-1. It was brilliant and I felt loads better after that.

I see Sammy Lee's left Bolton. Can't say I'm surprised...and I'm kind of glad - I couldn't handle seeing his face on Match of the Day much longer. He couldn't look much more like an aging rat.

Least surprising news of the week, surely.

The most surprising will be if McClaren leaves Lampard on the bench this afternoon... *crosses fingers*

I really like Sammy Lee. I remember I used to really like him when I was a kid, cos he had the same name as me, and no-one else seemed to then.

But then again, I wanted to be called Kevin after Kevin Kilmore until I was eight years old.

Wasn't Sammy Lee famously the only member of that Liverpool team who wasn't an international? Y'know... before top-flight clubs started randomly hoovering up players from Africa and eastern Europe and it was something quite special to have a few internationals in your squad.

Oh, hang on, no - that was Jimmy Case.

I think he played about 20-odd times for England.

Only that he seems to have been around for ever, doesn't he? He has one of those names you can always remember scoring a few in the lower leagues.

Reckon he'll continue with 4-5-1, or change it to 4-4-2 now he's got his man?

He'll go 4-4-2 now, I reckon. It didn't leave us exposed in the first half against Rochdale last week, and he's not given contracts to Jones, North and Taylor (and Jarman for that matter) so that he can carry on playing one up front.

Now - another centre-half to give Fenton a kick up the arse, and a proper left winger, and we'll be shooting up to the play-off places before you can say "sack the board".

Two or three really outstanding games aside, he's been prone to some bad lapses of concentration. I'm not saying get rid of him, cos he hasn't become a bad defender overnight; he just needs something to focus his mind. And it certainly doesn't help that there's no competition for his place in the team.
