The story behind the ??? isn't as nearly as exciting as a lot of people had hoped for! It was just a case of the band that I had asked wanted to wait to see if they were feeling well enough to perform. I hear the Vacaciones did a great job stepping in.RITH wrote:When I spotted both Elizabeth and Bill, I suspected/hoped the ??? ??? slot in the merch tent would be 'Allo Darling.

Re: Allo, Darlin'
Hey guys. I just wanted to come on here and say thanks for your concern and for caring! It really makes me feel good. I don't want to go too much into my private life, I think I do that enough in my songs, but it's enough to say that I am moving to Italy, the band will continue and everything will be fine. Yes I suppose I am being kicked out of the UK, but that's ok, it's been an incredible 8 years here and I am definitely ready to go somewhere new. I suppose Barto and others in Italy will get to see a few more solo shows, but we have plans already to play some UK shows in the autumn. We recorded five new songs yesterday in live takes and the new album is shaping up nicely.

Re: Allo, Darlin'
Hi everyone. Just wanted to let you know that in addition to our London show on Oct 31, we are playing in Leeds and Manchester too.
Leeds Belgrave Music Hall, 28 Oct http://www.wegottickets.com/event/237313
Manchester venue tba, 29 Oct
London Islington Assembly Halls, 31 Oct http://www.wegottickets.com/event/228357
Potentially a date to fill on 30 Oct, somewhere between Manchester and London.
We have been recording the new album this summer at Soup, and we're over the moon with what we have. At the moment we think that it will be called We Come From The Same Place. I know everyone says this about what they're working on, but I think it's the best we've ever done. Can't wait to play it to you!
See some of you at End of the Road this Friday and then in Nottingham on Sep 14.

Re: Allo, Darlin'
http://elizabethmorris.bandcamp.com/The last time I was home in Australia I tried my hand at writing songs on my great-great-great grandmother's piano. It came to Australia from Germany as a wedding gift in the 1850s. It still sounds beautiful.
These piano songs didn't feel like Allo Darlin' songs. Perhaps the reason why will be evident to you upon listening. They were written during a turbulent time, and have been floating around in my head ever since.
A conversation with my friend Darren Hayman made me think that perhaps I should record these piano songs on his ship's piano. I wanted to get them recorded before I left London permanently. Darren also drew some pictures of me while he was recording. We think this is the first time a recording engineer has drawn the artwork for an album whilst recording it. He's that good.
I wrote the song Shoe Box very recently. It is a funny little song but I think it hangs nicely with the others. I think that's all I need to say about that one.
Sweetheart will be familiar to Wave Pictures fans. Allo Darlin' have spent much of the last 18 months touring with the Wave Pictures, and this is one of my favourite songs of my friend David's.
This is not meant to mean anything other than I had these songs, and I didn't know what to do with them. But I wanted them to be heard at some point.
Thanks for listening and I hope that you like it.

Re: Allo, Darlin'
Oddly, Optimism has had a proper Pitchfork review, one which manages to suggest Allo Darlin' have influenced Paramore and Taylor Swift: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/185 ... -optimism/

I read that review too. It has to be said it adds an interesting, yet somewhat dubious slant to the review. I am in full agreement that it is a truly beautiful EP.

A little unexpected, but you never know where the next Allo Darlin fan will show their love:
