My favourite album of the year without a doubt is ONSIND's Anaesthesiology. Floors me every time.

I also really loved the Spook School record and T-Shirt Weather's album. I could probably think of a few more to make this into some kind of list, but I'm not going to.

Oh also, Tyrannosaurus Dead's six-track EP was a right stunner.

LPs
Golden Grrrls - S/T
Grass Widow - Past Time
Haiku Salut - Tricolore
A Little Orchestra - Clocks
The Pastels - Slow Summits

Muuy Biien - This Is What Your Mind Imagines
The Courtneys - S/T

Pete Green - The Glass Delusion
Cars Can Be Blue - Trace the Tension
La Luz - It's Alive
The Limiñanas - Costa Blanca
The Spook School - Dress Up
Julie Ruin - RUN FAST!

Reissues, compilations and the like
The Pastels - Summer Rain MC (a sort of Truckload of Trouble part two)
VA - Carry On Rioting
VA - Scared To Get Happy Box (flawed, but even so... I just carn't help myself, plus it was expensive so I have to like it or else)
Fear of Men - Early Fragments
Honey Ltd - The Complete LHI Recordings
Bona Dish - The Zaragoza Tapes 1981-1982
Sounds and Silence - Classroom Projects - Incredible Music Made By Children In Schools
Talulah Gosh! - Was it Just A Dream?
Neo Boys - Sooner or Later
Girl Trouble - Hit It Or Quit It

Singles
The Fireworks - Higher and Higher EP
Cosines - Hey Sailor Boy
Choo Choo Trains - I Choo-Choo-Choose You EP
City Yelps - Vetinary Centre
Girl One & The Grease Guns - Driving Without Headlights (Once Again)
Sourpatch - You Knew
Comet Gain - Avenue Girls
Jeff Melin - Smile Like A Lemon Peel, Kiss Like A Paper Cut

English Singles - Ordinary Girls
Skinny Girl Diet/Ethical Debating Society split
Good Grief/Eureka California split
Girl One & The Grease Guns - Jessica 6
September Girls - Talking
The Go Violets - Heart Slice EP
The Mini Skips - Evil/Shy
robberie - Four Seasons
Seabirds - Real Tears
September Girls - Heartbeats
Girl One & The Grease Guns - (Here Come The) Catastrophe Machines
Spook School - I'll Be Honest/Will You Always Be My Friend?
Joanna Gruesome - Sugarcrush/Tugboat
The Fireworks - Runaround EP
September Girls - Ships
Lovers Without Borders - Detective

Almost certainly a bunch of other stuff is missing because my addled mind doesn't recall it right now, and just like every year I won't be hitting on some of this years choicest selections until next year because that's just the way of it... I'm old and slow

I've got this on now, finally getting a chance to give it a proper listen- it's ACE!

Both H and I carelessly, mindlessly missed the Oblivians 'Desperation' LP off our lists, it seems to have come out so long ago but it was actually June (!)

Anyway, it was great, 'Pinball King' is my pick off the album

There were a couple of compilations also need mentioning:

rockhistory.co.uk (dread name) put out two great compilations: 'Bouffants, Beehives and Backcombing- Early Brit Girls, Vol. 1' and 'Helen, Dusty, Susan, Carol & More - Early Brit Girls, Vol. 2' that each feature 68 tracks on two discs and are remarkably good value... Helen Shapiro! Alma Cogan! Hayley Mills! Pet Clark! and the magnificently named Gale Warning! amongst many, many more...

el records put out the enjoyably eccentric 'Bowler Hats and Leather Boots - Personalities Go Pop Art' featuring songs and spoken word pieces from, amongst others, Oliver Reed, Quentin Crisp, Vincent Price, Kenneth Williams and John Betjeman which will nestle ever so neatly in between your Death By Chocolate and Would-Be-Goods records

Fantastic Voyage released the possibly quite niche 'It's A Scandal! Songs For Soho Blondes' compiled by Bob Stanley and Martin Green that, I quote, 'harks back to the heady world of Soho clubland in the years immediately before Swinging London'... with breathy, breathless, near to the knuckle vocal performances from Mandy Rice-Davies, Diana Dors, Shirley Bassey, Elke Sommer and Miss X (Lionel Blair's sister, Joyce)... combine these compilations with your Joe Meek compilation of choice, the Beat Girl soundtrack and perhaps rockhistory.co.uk's 'Calypsos, Boogies, Rockers, Ballads & Bluebeat' comp and you can transport yourself backwards through time in your own front room for a bit of a cavort around the antimacassar while pretending to be a Russian spy or a disgraced Oxford don... well, it's something to do... of an afternoon

The long-playing records from 2013 that I'll still be playing this time next year/in five years/whenever...

Sweet Baboo - Ships
Veronica Falls - Waiting for Something to Happen
The Spook School - Dress Up
Bleached - Ride Your Heart

...and maybe some others.

Looking forward to more from Tyrannosaurus Dead, Flowers, The Fireworks, Wild Smiles, and Girl One and the Grease Guns in 2014. No pressure on them though.

For those either still mourning the passing of 2013 or feeling like they didn't quite hear as much music as they could have (and are afraid they may have missed some essential hot poop) Daniel at So Tough! So Cute! has picked his favourites at his blog

But that's not all, he's also bunged together a two part compilation of his favourites which you can download for FREE

It's a bit special... over 60 bands: http://sotoughsocute.blogspot.com/2014/ ... -from.html
