Have you tried Spotify?

Post by Eardrums Knut » Wed Jan 07, 2009 01:11

If you have spotify (a new legal music streaming service), you can check out the playlist I have made with lots of indiepop/anorak/bubblegum/cute pop. I have made the playlist open for collaboration, so please add a track or two if you find something that isn't there already. I have a few invites left (5 I think), so if you haven't got one, send me a message/mail or a nice handwritten letter and if I have one left, it's yours.

Here's the playlist:

I use it too, it was so hyped in the Swedish blogosphere it was hard to avoid.

And yes, I have invited too if anyone needs some, it's quite a nifty service!

I found The Very Best Of Bernard Cribbins on it last night. There's a selling point right there.

I've tried it. It's pretty good actually - the layout/navigation etc is excellent and it's dead quick. However, half the bands I've searched for aren't on there at the moment. I think I'll stick with last.fm until they get more bands on there...

Sort of my view at the moment. However there is stuff there I haven't got a lot of (The Minutemen for example) so that's worth a free download. Nice layout and I like the concept of playlist sharing. It's pretty fast too.

They removed a load of artists recently because of legagal reasons which was a shame as a lot of good stuff was taken off. Hopefully they'll sort it out and be able to put them back on. It is good though and very fast.

When the artist submission thing goes live it'll be awesome. In the meantime, it is 'quite good'! It scrobbles to Last FM, which is nice, but it has FAR from everything!

It's OK. Didn't have any Lucksmiths. But it did have the Homosexuals.
Listened to the whole of the Hollies Butterfly LP on it on sunday even though
we had the vinyl copy two feet from my feet. But then the girlfriend only
knows how to listen to music either on her ipod or on the computer.
It was easy, it was cheap, go and do it!

I found it's a great way of revisiting albums you haven't listened to for years - today I have mostly been listening to Buffalo Tom, Like Honey, Deep Purple and some Freakbeat Compilation - certainly helps to pass the time at work!

It certainly seems like a good thing - works perfectly on my Mac Pro tower as well as my MacBook - HOWEVER I've been told if you read the small print of the user agreement it is a Peer-to-peer programme, so you are also allowing them access to use space on your hard drive - which may cause problems if your ISP charges you for upload / download bandwidth used.

Anyone know any more about this??
Cheers!

That is how it works, yes. I'm not sure if you will be downloading anything more than the songs you are listening though, but it seems a good way to deal with bandwidth requirements.

I love Spotify so much! I use it nearly every day, and I made a few playlists for others instead of mixtapes that would never have happened in real life.

My friend Kate signed up while she was here, and her account still works in Canada. Surely this is an easily exploitable loophole...

This seems really interesting but when I clicked the original link it says that firefox doesn't know how to handle it. Also wanted to check out the rest of the site but I get a wordpress error when I go to spotify.com

Hmm...

I used to use Mixwit for streaming all the releases from Lost Sound Tapes, but they got into legal troubles and now that site bit the dust. If anyone can invite me to spotify I'd love to try it out.
