pretty soon there will be bands forming with the express intention of getting a record out on captured tracks.

can't believe the first releases came out in february & already i've got nine 7"s, seven 12"s, four tapes, an lp & a t-shirt. will they hit 50 releases in their first year ...

Anyone else out there find the quality of Captured Tracks' vinyl to be fairly poor? Just paid out 26 quid for The Bitters & The Mayfair Set 12"s and The MS is warped and sticks (3rd song, a-side) and the other sticks (2nd song, a-side) and jumps a lot (2 song, b-side). I was a bit underwhelmed with the pressing quality of my copy of The Mayfair Set 7", too. If this continues I'll be opting out of their future releases which is a shame as I'd definitely buy The Spectrals, Veronica Falls, Grass Widow etc., otherwise.

my bitters 12" plays fine, but i have the same problem with the mayfair set 12" getting stuck at the end of the third track (mine isn't warped, though). i know another person whose copy does the same thing; perhaps rather than a result of poor quality vinyl the problem's that they approved the test pressing without listening to the entire thing? who knows.

most annoying warping i've had recently was the grass widow lp, which arrived from the label with a strong curve to both sleeve and record, although the sleeve doesn't look bent up at all. it plays fine, but annoyed me sufficiently to buy a new, unbent copy.

Ah, cheers for that Everard. Like a prize plum I've not played my Grass Widow lp yet. Heh heh...I would've probably done the same in your position :) It's a shame that the stick on The Mayfair Set record is during 'Dark House' as on first listen that was easily my fave track.

i've got the woods 12", yeah (and the brilliant colors one). best batch so far, i reckon. but i didn't mailorder either; bought them at the festival.

re. grass widow, their demo & the rank/xerox split are downloadable from pukekos. i'm pretty sure that the lp on make a mess is actually the demo plus two more songs on the end, as the recording info on the insert is the same for both. might be my favourite lp of the year so far.

two of the british captured tracks bands, teen sheikhs & the spectrals have tapes coming out soon on suplex cassettes.

"sunlit" b/w "the dark". the b-side is my favourite song of theirs, wish they'd done an acoustic version of it for the new 12".

woah...you were at the festival?... fantastic! How were Tyvek? I'm jealous that you saw caUSE co-MOTION!. I was going to be putting on their Glasgow show before they cancelled the tour. Shame.

I've got both Brilliant Colors 7"s so I wasn't gonna get the 12" but then I discovered that there were unreleased things on it. Are they worth shelling out the sheckels for?

tyvek didn't play, unfortunately -- one of the band had to go to hospital or something. was a real pity as i was looking forward to them a lot. cause co-motion! were really great, a definite highlight. real shame about the uk cancellations. the festival was excellent overall (see page 1 of thread for more).

there's only one extra song on the brilliant colors 12", so i'm not sure how essential a purchase you'd consider it. it's a good song, though! and it's nice to just flip sides once whilst playing rather than three times.

i recorded a radio session they did on wnyu a week or two back, will upload that sometime soon.

the grass widow lp is being re-pressed, according to the make a mess myspace. but it looks like rough trade still have it.

here is the brilliant colors radio session i mentioned yesterday: four songs (two unreleased) and an interview.

I've heard Mike Sniper sells crack to fund his lo-fi pop habit, anyone else been hearing this?

ah, internet rumours, gotta love 'em.

conspiracy theorists might point to the fact that you can't have captured tracks without c, r, a, c, k.

also that the music 'rocks', is 'addictive', blah blah blah.

anyway, it would be an interesting flip on the usual situation of people selling their records to pay for their drug habit.

on a more factual (& less libellous/ cover-blowing) note, grass widow & gary war 12"s are apparently going on sale this week. can't wait for the grass widow!

Maybe this is silly, but I liked Dum Dum girls better before seeing that video of them performing live. I have very little tolerance for cooler than thou posturing. Very few people can pull it off well. Part of what attracted me to the indiepop scene was the lack of this attitude...

Maybe I just have something against L.A. bands.
