I don't understand why Eleanor's 60 year old mum walking out is particularly noteworthy?
She used to play kazoo in the incredible string band....so she knows her folk.

Fence Club running times for tonight -

Doors - 8.00
Pictish Trail / Rozi Plain - 8.15
Malcolm Middleton - 9.00
James Yorkston - 10.00
King Creosote DJ - 11.30 to close

Trickster - you still coming along to this? I have to be there for doors opening to interview JY so will have to miss the Pictish/Rozi set, which is a bit of a bugger but they are supporting JY around the country in November.

Much as I would love to stick around and listen to KC play Simple Minds and A-Ha records, I think I'll be bolting after JY finishes for school night and bed type reasons.

Yup, I'll be there! I'm in a terrible mood so I apologise in advance for possible grumpiness. Things will be better once I've had a nice pint or two.

I'm not sure what time I'll get along but I'll be sure to bump into you.

Coolio. I'm always in a terrible mood so we can grump over pints in the corner.

Looks like I'll see Pictish/Rozi after all, interview is likely to be earlier. Result!

A pretty fabulous performance from JY tonight, near enough the perfect set. The best of the new LP ("Tortoise Regrets Hare", the title track, "Midnight Feast" among others) and a spot-on choice of old tunes - the likes of "Shipwreckers", "Cheating The Game" (with Sarah the clarinet player in the "Jason role"), "5am", "I Awoke" and "Sweet Jesus" to close it all off.

Interview was fine. Yer man is an absolute pro, you can tell he's done this before. Made me feel right at ease, answered the questions with purpose and clarity and didn't raise any eyebrows or roll his eyes at stuff he's obviously been asked before. I imagine it'll be the only interview I'll do where it got nearly interrupted by a tour party on one of those ghost tours!

3 in a row!

Here's the James Yorkston interview from last night. I had a lot of fun transcribing it, just recalling what a top man he was to talk to. I think it reads really well, and I hope you do too.

Thanks y'all. I emailed Mr JY the link to the interview and got a nice reply back this morning. What a thoroughly decent chap he is, another one to add to the good guys list.

Is it Halloween yet?

i'm quite gutted i didn't get to go to the fence thing in glasgow tonight, but i'm not long home from work and listening to the pictish trail album, and i think the vocals on 'ribbon (the twist)' are the most vulnerably lovely vocals i've heard this year. this album gets even better with repeated listening.

Me too. KC played a track offof it during his DJ stint at the James Yorkston Fence Club gig and it sounded really, really good. Reports suggest that it's a fantastic record.

When is that record due to appear? I don't recall hearing the track at Fence Club but then I spent half that night with my head squashed against a wall so my hearing may not have been on full beams.

I don't know when it's due, but I can ask my sources (and see if I can blag a review copy!). I think the tune was played in between the Pictish/Rozi and Malcy sets.

Ah, I may have been outside getting some 'fresh air' then. Either that or trying to get to the bar. It was unpleasantly busy, that night.

OK, it's out November 17th but apparently you can get it at a London show next week or at the Halloween gig.

And yes the Caves gig was stupidly busy. I was down the front so I saw OK but I can't imagine what it would have been like at the back round about the archway.
