he's working as an illustrator/designer now- he didn't mention any music making he's doing at the moment (which is a shame)

he's been incredibly generous with the interview, he goes into a lot of detail about kicking giant, the music and bands playing in ny and olympia at that time, the whole k set up and ethos, how calvin really makes the most of everything around him... I learned a lot

I bin countin' them there days till Finally Punk's Glasgow show on the 2nd, July! Should be sweet. Hopefully, buying the records at the show will be much cheaper than getting them online, too.

i don't know about shops in glasgow, but now that it's not uncommon to see american diy/ small label 7"s sold for £6+ in rough trade, i find it's usually about the same to order direct from the label. also, it's a guarantee of actually getting the stuff before it sells out -- i doubt their primary colors/ live on kvrx tape ever made it to any shops.

but yeah, nice to have the luxury of being able to buy the stuff at a show, no doubt be a fair bit cheaper. i wonder what they will have for sale, though, perhaps just

-"HYPERTENSION" 7" EP ON M'LADY'S RECORDS
-CASUAL GOTHS - 12" LP (ENHANCED CD INCLUDED) ON ABL RECORDS/GERMS OF YOUTH (UK)
-CONSTRUCT/DESTRUCT - LIVE CD ON GERMS OF YOUTH (UK)

i'm strongly hoping that the latter is only being sold for the first time in london, cos there are only a hundred & if they had them at the start of the tour they might be running low by now.

hopefully t-shirts too, cos mine (diana design from second edition of first 7") has just worn out. gonna cut the design off and stitch it onto another shirt as a patch.

such a good band! also, the mutating meltdown 12" on captured tracks promises to be excellent. looks like the extensive m.m. summer tour is the reason the carrots had to back out of indietracks.

I've heard a lot about these but not actually heard them... may make a trip over to the Deaf Institute in Manchester on Monday to try and catch 'em. Anyone else going?

my friends mostly weren't that impressed with finally punk but i thought they were excellent. especially "missile". am sorry i'll miss their other london show, i'd like to see 'em again. they seem to really enjoy playing, and i like bands that swap instruments for virtually every song!

thanks to christos for passing on his unused ticket.

Realised far too late on saturday that i've got Crocodile God practice booked for tonight, and we'd have to pay to cancel. So it looks like i'll have to miss out on Finally Punk, since it doesn't make much sense to pay out in order to spend even more cash.

Gutted, i was really looking forward to it. Wanted to hear their version of Negative Creep too!

possibly of interest to some here... free downloads of 12 lp length comps of international 'female fronted' punk rock from 1977-1989

part one: http://kangnave.blogspot.com/2010/02/re ... -rock.html
part two: http://kangnave.blogspot.com/2010/02/re ... ck_11.html
part three: http://kangnave.blogspot.com/2010/02/re ... ck_17.html
This is a pretty insane project put together by my pal Vince B. from San Francisco a few years back. As the title indicates, this is a homemade 12 x CD-R (!) compilation of punk bands fronted by female vocalists from 1977 to 1989. More like a giant mixtape than a compilation, as he only made 36 copies which he sent to friends and people who submitted material. You may notice that some of the bands didn't have a steady female vocalist (The Lewd, etc.) but he still included songs that were sung by another member of the band. This is as international as it gets, with stuff ranging from world famous Blondie or Crass to the most obscure Eastern European cassette compilation veterans. The boxset came packaged in a handnumbered fancy translucent lunchbox enclosing all 12 CD-Rs, a stack of full-colored cards featuring comprehensive tracklist and artwork/info, as well as a manga pin-up figure! Talk about a labor of love.
includes blondie, the fastbacks, au pairs, mo-dettes, slits, rezillos, honey bane, holly and the italians, penetration, delta 5, hagar the womb, pandoras, x-ray spex, liliput, crass, the ex, essential logic, the bags, petticoats, xmal deutschland, the poison girls, rubella ballet, the avengers, teenage jesus & the jerks, dog faced hermans, raincoats, the joyce mckinney experience, siouxsie and the banshees, girls at our best, 45 grave, chin chin, family fodder, dolly mixture and the lovedolls to name but a very few

that's my weekend sorted

astounding!

wow, thanks for that. am going to download them all now but only put one on my mp3 player at any given time. totally impossible to digest otherwise!

lucky people who got the boxset! would have been ace had the uploader also scanned the "stack of full-colored cards featuring comprehensive tracklist and artwork/info".

would also be really great to know which of the bands are all women, rather than with with a female singer (or band member who sings a particular song).

Since we don't have a Sleater-Kinney thread, this seemed like the most logical place:
