Shout Out Louds

Post by frankie » Tue Jun 18, 2013 10:51

Riddle me this – why are the Shout Out Louds not revered by the indiepop community? They surely have everything you need to be indiepop legends

Swedish? Check!
Great pop tunes? Check!
Female Keyboard Player? Check!
Shy beardy singer with floppy fringe? Check!
Lovelorn lyrics? Check!

I'm not convinced by the production on the new album (although it has some great songs) but the first 3 albums are brilliant. Saw them live last week and it was one of the best gigs I've ever seen. I'm just baffled as to why they aren't floating boats round these parts

I love the first 2 albums, but don't like the last 2 al all, I don't find anything interesting on them, and I'm sad about it because I really lovedthe first 2 albums.

I saw them in London last week and half-heartedly looked for a thread afterwards.

They were great and had a very 'up for it' excitable crowd for a band who seem to have very little profile in the UK.

Wasnt sure if half the crowd were Swedish or not but they have a good half a dozen great songs. Tonight I Have to Leave It is clearly a classic but 14th of July off the new album is right up there as well.

Shout Out Louds are actually one of my favourite bands. It does baffle me as to why they are not bigger here, as they are clearly brilliant!

Being based in Leeds I haven't been able to make it down to London for the last two shows, especially as they have been on weeknights, but based on the really quite poor attendance of their last two shows in Leeds, it doesn't surprise me that they haven't ventured up here. Both shows were fantastic though, and in not coming people really missed out on something special!

I'd really like to see the new stuff live.

There's not much but there WAS already a topic about this band, here:

That's weird – I searched for Shout Out Louds and that thread doesn't show up in the results, even though it's the topic name. Adding the ! to the search string makes no odds. I guess ! is a reserved character for pattern matching or something and it doesn't compute

But anyway – that answers my question. The original thread was in "Not Indiepop" so clearly despite having many of the hallmarks of indiepop to me, they aren't considered as such

Draw your own conclusions

I know your tongue is probably in your cheek and I'm just a morning grump, but those seem like very strange reasons to like a band of any style. The "female keyboard player" comment just makes me think of the weird situation in a lot of groups where "hey, look! We have a lovely lady on stage, except all she's allowed to do is play the tinkly things like glockenspiel and tambourine, while us MEN do the real music". Bah.
I saw them play once, but they just seemed like something of a major record label failure band, with a couple of nice melodies.

Morning grump out.

I've wondered this too. I didn't realised they had so many albums but I went through a phase of putting Please Please Please on every mix CD I made, it's all jangly and sing-along!

Yes my tongue was firmly in cheek based on the number of frankly appalling bands I've witnessed over the years that seem to be lauded precisely because they tick all those boxes when actually they don't have any songs or signs of musical ability
