i've not heard much jangly stuff that's excited me for a while either, trev

saying that, i think i've pretty much always preferred the noisier stuff

Is it not more that we go through phases of the sort of stuff we like listening to? I know that after a while of listening to gentler music I get a craving for something louder!

It could be this - but yeah, I dunno.

Indiepop doesn't equal "jangle" (whatever that is).

The new Fever Dream ep is the best indiepop single I've heard this year, and it's not "jangle" (whatever that is).

What about the amazing Hobbes Fanclub single? Two great tracks of fuzz-y indiepop?

There's been so much good stuff this year, you grumpy gits.

I love you.

But I wouldn't call Fever Dream indiepop (and yes I really like them). And I like Hobbes Fanclub, they buck the trend, too.

I've loved loads of stuff this year but not much in what I consider 'classically' indiepop.

I'll shut up, now.

Is it me? I'm not really getting into the newer stuff that I would've possibly loved a few years back. I know this could kick start the horrible what is indiepop debate again. But I'm feeling underwhelmed by a lot of stuff I am hearing at the moment.

Still excited by bands like Sock Puppets, Martha, Anguish Sandwich, Playlounge, Joanna Gruesome etc etc. But finding it harder to find real affection for the gentler end of the spectrum.

I'm almost the opposite. I'm underwhelmed by many of the noisy bands I hear at the moment, and I'm wondering where all the gentler, folkier, janglier indiepop bands have gone. To be fair, I don't get out to many gigs these days so I have to rely on looking at the line-ups that other people put on, and I'm probably missing a load of great bands. So if anyone knows of any jangly or folky or more gentle indiepop bands, please let me know!

Making Marks lp, for those who love Northern Portrait I think you'll find that MM are kindred spirits.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Two of my favourite gentler indiepop releases this year were ones I put out: The Rosie Taylor Project and One Happy Island. I would say that, but if you haven't heard either I'd recommend giving them both a listen. They are both what I consider to be 'growers' too. They take a while to click but when they do they'll be with you for life.

I've been obsessed with them! We played a show last Monday with them in San Diego and they were really adorable. Lief totally borrowed my bass cab, because we use the same cute mini Ampeg SVTs. And then my roommate, her bandmate, and I had Mexican food with Jessica. Way too much fun for a Monday.

The debut Garlands album is the must have indie pop album of the year ... it is so so good ... makes me fall in love with indie pop all over again :-)

"a light far out" by the Wake is very good too (and it seems to have gone a bit under the radar sadly)

and of course the Cats on Fire album is up there with the best (goes without saying)

I also really really like the debut album by Melody's Echo Chamber and "perfume" by Cineplexx

I've been so disapointed by this album. I feel like it's the worst Matinée release ever... :/
