Tigercats

Post by theehaircut » Thu Jun 09, 2011 17:26

Hello everybody,

I thought I'd follow Nik's lead in starting a thread about my own band. He also made this video for us:

Thanks Nik! It's for our single that's out on WeePop! on picturedisc. I've just realised we've been playing live for over a year now, and I want to thank everyone who's given us shows, particularly Sean and Allo Darlin, and Camila for letting us make a vinyl. We want to do more shows and more vinyls.

There's a free download of one of the tracks on weepop.net.

Hope to see you at a show sometime,

Giles

Thanks! Sting's fine with it. The video is officially endorsed by him. He took us for a ride in his Eco-friendly jaguar helicopter when he gave us that book.

I saw Tigercats in Sheffield tonight as part of that young people's Tramlines thing and they were bloody amazing. I recommend them.

I love Tigercats very much. I know the words to all their songs. They are also some of the best people you'll ever meet.

Really enjoyed Tigercats at XOYO on the 13th! First time I'd heard them properly, very much won over.

Thank you eardrums and dan and elizabeth and heliolithic you're all very kind :)

Side project alert! Is that a derogatory term, side project? I'm going with not, projects can be side by side, right? OK I'll put it another way. Laura K sings and plays keys in Tigercats but also on her own and she has a single out! Free download from Eardrumspop, just click here:

Sarah from crayonlegs did the artwork. She also collaborated with Duncan, Paul Rains from Hexicon/Allo Darlin, Robert Rotifer and Darren Hayman on the Vostok 5 exhibition which I imagine many of you London types went along to. Everyone involved, Tigercats included, recorded songs for the accompanying CD which you can still buy from http://vostok5.tumblr.com

Update! Our new single is called Full Moon Reggae Party. You can download it here:

http://soundcloud.com/tigercats/tigerca ... ggae-party

We have recorded 2 Bsides to accompany the song, which will be released on iTunes on April 2, but the single itself is available NOW for FREE download. It couldn't be any more now or free.

Tigercats were simply fabulous in Leicester on Monday supporting Allo Darlin'. Full of nervous spiky post-punk energy and tropicalia. It felt like The Suburban Kids doing early Talking Heads covers and was as wonderful as that sounds.

I saw them on Saturday at Popfest but, as with most all-dayers, by the end it all seemed to merge into one. Seeing them again on Monday showed me what a great band they (almost) are.

I am liking their debut album very much!

I would echo Skywriting's thoughts about them. They've got the bounciness of Suburban Kids, with a bit of Talking Heads angularity thrown in - a bit of an African sound too - and vocals with a kind of Post Punk feel to them. It all comes together to make a fine sound. And they've got pop hooks aplenty on this album.

And definitely catch them live if you can - they have a great energy. Saw them at London Popfest and am already looking forward to seeing them again!

Laura K's' solo single is lovely too - well worth picking up too, if you haven't already.

I've only been able to listen to the unfinished version of the album on my laptop until now, but the real thing sounds amazing on the stereo. Can't wait to see the band live.

Album launch is on Friday (30th March) in Dalston. Think advance tickets are sold out, but I've been told that if you want to come in, I'll be on the door. Cross my palm with silver and whisper sweet nothings in my ear and you'll be in.

The single proper is out 2nd of April, the album the following Monday. Acuerla Discos are doing the CD, we're doing the vinyl. It'll be in the shops all proper and everything. Or just buy it from our website.

I bought the Tigercats album in rush of Indietracks excitement on Saturday morning and it has already arrived, somehow. So tonight I have listened to it twice and HOORAY: it is completely AMAZING.

Tigercats have got a new single coming out in time for Indietracks. It'll be a double A-side 7", featuring Harper Lee from the album and a new song, Cats Run Free. Darren Hayman has made a video for Harper Lee and everything, you can see it here: https://vimeo.com/43298802
