It looks like there's now a Middle Ones Bandcamp site where you can download a lot of their stuff for free. Ace!

I suppose while I'm here I should post the flyer for this gig we're putting on.

Here's a couple of videos of them playing new songs at our popshow in Glasgow today. Not sure what they were called, unfortunately. 'Scuse the poor sound quality.

finally picked up the hangover lounge 10" ... the version of "goodnight" is so great. don't know if it's my headphones or what but the recording sounds like the double bass is the main focus & the singing is more in the background, which totally works.

any news re. more records? i know there's an album coming on stitch-stitch sometime but i hear there was a whole other album recorded at the same time ...

also, 2011 is (bristol vegan co-op) cafe kino's year with the middle ones, a residency on the last sunday of every month: february 27, march 27, april 24, etc

It is rather marverlous isn't it? The bass really does add to the song.

That is an ace idea. We're trying to sort out when Plouf! can make it down to play one with them.

apparently the first of their two albums is out in april/may on stitch-stitch of bristol & discount horse of durham, then the second one is due in july, when they're touring with best friends forever. exciting! (also, two plan-it-x connections: here's hoping chris puts out something sometime!)

it makes sense for them to work with Discount Horse; they're totally the sort of thing i can imagine JC going for. ONSIND are another band on Discount Horse/P-I-X band that i think folk on here would like.

anyway, totally excited for the album(s)!

Details would be good, though I imagine Simon ABS will be booking them in Brum.

I've not heard anything but it's an amazing lineup that we HAVE to try and get to happen in Birmingham somehow...

Sorry Stich Stitch, I ordered from Discount Horse (I also ordered the No Fit State tape -quite excited about that). I sometimes wish I lived in Bristol. I;d be miserable there too, though.

i've been digesting it is the rehearsal that will make this over the past couple of days -- it was interesting to come to it with high expectations, be initially nonplussed because it didn't blow my mind, then gradually start to appreciate it properly.

something i haven't really noticed before is quite how good their lyrics are, other than the odd noticeable refrain, not having seen them written down. the vocal interplay can get a little confusing when trying to follow what's being sung, but it's a really effective technique to have anna & grace singing the same thing, then diverging, then coming back together. also when listening on headphones i seem to notice a few little tricks like getting used to anna's voice in one ear, grace's in the other, then suddenly realising it's switched. or grace's voice suddenly being more prominent, or singing the main verse when anna usually does. i dunno, maybe i'm just imagining these things.

my least favourite song is the opener, "quite something", but it does work nicely as an introduction to the album. it took a little while to stop thinking 'the versions on the 10"s are better' but i think the new ones work nicely, they complement rather than supercede. the artwork & packaging is nice -- i'd prefer an lp (i hope someone with more money than sense puts out a double lp of this & slow and steady) but as cds go this is pretty snazzy.

rather bizarre when listening to realise that eleven people play on this album -- probably never all on one song but still it's amazing to hear so many people making music so intimate, playing sparsely rather than all trying to be heard. testament to the talented, ego-free bristol scene. that said, i'd love to hear a version of "courage" also recorded in the church but really belted out, bombastic-style!

Mine came a few days ago, but have only gotten around to listening to it for the first time now (it's half way through). First impressions are that is a lovely, fragile record and the lyrical interplay is sublime in places. I'm enjoying it immensely so far.
