Evidently - it's out on Monday. Unfortunately what I've heard of it isn't very good, although that's to be expected from someone who claims its main inspiration is Late Of The Pier. Caroline Sullivan in today's Grauniad begs to differ, though: http://www.guardian.co.uk/music/2008/au ... w.mandarin" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I read that article in a cafe and the following bit really annoyed me a lot:
if she had known in 1996 how to write giddy arm-wavers like these, Bis would have achieved more than just a couple of top 50 singles.

The single is great. That's my Euro pop side coming out!

we used to share a hairdresser just off the Trongate in Glasgow...that was back in the day...when I looked like morrissey...old old hair dressers that did the best flat tops ever....they had a poster in the window "We cut Manda Rin (from Bis)'s hair"

The main problem with bis was the fact that nno-one outside Glasgow could pronounce their name.
(well, that & their 2nd album!)

She runs a badge making dooh dah now....

There's an ex saxophone repairman down here in Brighton who makes videos for her, the 1990's and Long Blondes.....ho hum.

Is it just me or is she a little too old and rough looking now to carry off hair clips?

Shurrup. She's younger than me, she can wear all the hairclips she wants.

Manda Rin is the sole reason why I began wearing hair clips.

I was really into Bis when I was younger, and they still hold a place in the Nostaligic Ventricle of my heart.

But I wasn't aware that there was any special way to pronounce their name... It's just "bis", isn't it? Like, to rhyme with "miss"?

I've heard people pronounce it "biz" before, including - possibly - the band themselves. But that sounds all wrong, so I'm going to keep rhyming with "miss".

Did the Data Panik album ever come out? I think at one point they were going to stick it on the net for free, but I don't think that ever happened...

Does that mean she's a badger?

I always thought it was "biss" (rhyming with piss). So maybe Glaswegians pronounce it "bish".

I say it "biss" to rhyme with "piss" too, but I often wondered about saying it "biz" as in short for "wee bism".
