y'know - just to mark that "the album is out" rather than an actual event that is being attended.

Nah, you're not dumb! It's a reference to a town in France, Noyelles-sous-Lens, where they did a gig last year.

Standard Fare have a little blog about their tour in the USA here: http://standardfare3.tumblr.com/

And! You can see a vid of them performing "Fifteen" a few days ago in NYC:

La Blogotheque, home of various live sessions by famous people, puts it fairly bluntly: http://www.blogotheque.net/Standard-Fare-is-good-shit

the album's brilliant! 'fifteen' and 'love doesn't just stop' are just such good songs. that bit in fifteen, 'wanting you, wanting yoooooooou, uh uh ohhhh' just kills me every time.

timahall wrote:Does no one else think Fifteen is a hell of a lot like Once & Never Again by the late, great (and fellow Sheffielders) the Long Blondes, musically and lyrically? Don't get me wrong, I love it! Dancing and Philadelphia are great too. Promising band! Looking forward to seeing them at the ol' Popfest.
I've just heard this album and was thinking it was my favourite since the Long Blondes - so, interesting to read what you said. (though I didn't pick up on the link between the songs... I thought more of the Shop Assistants and Bow Wow Wow - which are pretty great bands for someone to remind you of)
"Married" is amazing. I was listening to it on the way in to work and I think I had a small damp patch in the corner of my eye.

The Standard Fare album is 'officially' out today!

It's available from all the usual indie outlets (our faves being Norman Records, Rough Trade, Piccadilly and Sheffield's own Record Collector) plus places like HMV, Amazon, Play, etc.. Downloads available from iTunes, eMusic, Tunetribe, Amazon MP3 , and all those places. And don't forget the special packages (including a very natty Fair Trade Cotton T-Shirt) available direct from http://www.standardfare.co.uk

If you look at the Thanks section of the CD it says "Thanks to..Trev & Sam and all the other helpful anoraks" :)

Cheers!

It is a nice little review that, short and to the point. Bonus for using the word bathos.

I'm really looking forward to hearing this, I'm one the few who hasn't yet I think.

Really? I'd have thought 'pathos' was more appropriate.
