he he, i'm going to be in Florida then for my hols, i tentatively put forward the idea of going to this at least one day (when The Cannanes play would be nice) but it was met mostly by bemusement and blank looks.

I don't even know where Gainesville is, but i'm sure its not near where all the tourists go.

There was a website for the festival the other day, but i cant find it now.

It's where University of Florida is. It's a small college town, so it won't be touristy.

Also, lots of Florida is not touristy and interesting and fun. It's really only Orlando that's all crowded and touristy.

Here it is: http://popmayhem.com/

Boyracer, Brittle Stars, the Airfields!! and the Cannanes!!! have all been confirmed so far. This may be the first show of the Cannanes outside Australia for many years.... I can't believe it. If only I could afford a plane ticket to Florida. Ach, I want to see them so much..
I slice the surface here beside you/Lungs filled liquid yell I love you/Sound moves further underwater
Deep and dark my submarine bells groan in greens and grey/Mine would chime a thousand times/To make you feel okay..

Depending where you are, there are often cheap charters to FL. My relations take one fr. Glasgow. And it's cheap digs once you get there.

This site usually does really cheap flights. They vary depending on when you book them - I think a month before the trip is about the cheapest.

See, thats the problem, we're going to Orlando for 2 weeks to BE tourists, theres 7 of us going, only 1 of whom would want to go here (me). I've already resigned myself to not going, but i'll still mention it every now and then.

It says on their (the cannanes) website that they hope to come to the UK soon.. If i had the money i'd go to see them in Perth with Institut Polaire, but i don't..

'cos i'm going to Florida, to not see them there!

I think you could get a bus to Orlando for fairly cheap. It's only about 2.5 hours from there. And Gainesville's a cheap place to find rooms and food and things.

Also, I like all the cheesy rollercoaster/haunted house/flashy swirly things fun that is to be had in Orlando. The Spiderman ride at Islands of Adventure is pretty much the greatest thing ever invented ever. I nearly concussed myself last time because I was so freakin' excited about getting to ride it like six times in a row because a rainstorm pretty much emptied the park.

Me too! I cant wait, i havent been to Florida since Feb '96, 2 weeks of sun, theme parks and mini golf. I've heard the same thing about the Spiderman ride from one of my mates who's coming with us..

I'll look into the indiepop side trip nearer the time i think.

And it's for real about the Spiderman ride, like I thought, after all the talking up people did about it, that it couldn't be that great.

It was better.

Also, one time when I was in line for it, Spiderman all snuck through the line all Spideylike, quiet and like he didn't want anyone to notice him.

I love birds.

I keep reading the May 2008 part as being May 200% because I have old person eyes.

I was just looking at buses up from Orlando (up? i dunno, up/down wherever) and its about 3 hours away on the greyhound, i was thinking about just going one day, which would most likely be the saturday, but the times aren't too great and its essentially a 2 day trip away.. All good in theory, but i've decided to give it a miss. I'll get my pop fix at Indietracks anyway.

pretty pointless post this, excecpt to demonstrate my lack of Florida geography knowledge.

Me too! But you can live vicariously through YouTube, there's lots of great videos from the show, starting here with The Cannanes:
