SXSW '09!

Post by sinus supremus » Mon Sep 29, 2008 3:22 am

If I were to set up an unofficial day show during SXSW week would any bands be interested?

It's such an eclectic week of music, but there are really no exclusively indie pop shows or parties. I would love to get something going and if I start now I could do a ton of promotion. Austin is such a condensed town that getting the word out and plastering the place for promotion would not be a problem.

So if you or someone you know is interested in taking part and helping out or playing or just showing any bit of interest at all please lemme know.

I finally did my application for this last night, so if I manage to get IN this year I'd love to come and play. However, it's my third or fourth attempt, so not HUGELY likely to happen!

Yeah that's what I'm talking about. Bands that might not particularly want to or be able to get into the official shows can play day shows and still have a turnout. SXSW officially for me is nothing, it's all about the day shows.

I usually do not even buy a pass to go to shows because they are going so damned expensive and I still have a good time. Most of the fun stuff goes on during the day for free! or parties at night that you can RSVP for and get in for free! Getting a wristband or being an official SXSW band now means that you do get to take part in particular showcases at large venues and gain entry to official SXSW official things. It does not mean you cannot have a hell of a time without one, contrary, it is just as much if not more liberating to have the choices of digging into obscured day shows or cool parties!

most of the happy happy birthday to me records roster will be applying to sxsw over the next 2 weeks, so let us know if you put together a party, most of the bands would jump at the chance to play. mike

Hey, how does this work? This will be my first SXSW (I just recently moved to Austin). I am trying to decide how I should do it.

Do you know how "showcases" work? I really really want to go the WFMU/Aquarius Records showcase. Thanks!
