Scrabble (and related games, for example Wordfeud)

Here we are then. Some of us were taking over the Android thread with our dirty Wordfeud talk.

tompony has a good story to tell us, I believe.

I scored 575 the other week!

It was the luckiest run of letters anyone will ever have.

I had a wonderful Wordfeud game with Murray today that ended 418-405, and could have gone either way right until the very end. Genuine edge-of-the-seat stuff!

Has anyone else played at the Internet Scrabble Club? I signed up last week and my current record is seven wins, six losses (after a four-in-a-row winning streak to begin with). The standard is pretty high!

I feel a bit dirty confessing this, but I wrote the below out years (many) ago when I used to play Quite A Lot of Literati, and actually made an effort to learn them all. For shame.

I almost feel like I should fill the white space with other useful/obscure words.

I think I started to find word games unsatisfying as once you get to a certain level of ability it becomes less about the making of words, and more about trying to get 'QI' across two triple letter scores and stopping your opponent from doing likewise.

That said, I have downloaded Wordfeud, and look forward to getting soundly thrashed by all of you at some point.

Ooh, careful with that list - I spy a few two letter words there that aren't valid in Wordfeud (or either of the main Scrabble dictionaries) - OZ and MD, for example.

As I'm currently in the midst of a full-on Scrabble obsession (it comes and goes), I've been reading Word Freak by Stefan Fatsis (and recently rewatched the Word Wars documentary which covers similar ground). The expert players are all such wonderful oddballs. I've got to admit, I've started making a concerted effort to learn more of the tricky words as well.

Whu? I have no idea why 'md' (or 'yu', for that matter) is on there. I plead idiocy.

The ad-free version is cheap... I think I upgraded before I'd finished my first game. Advertising works!

In a round-about way yeah... I paid within about 2 minutes. Australian Andrew off of Bowlie introduced me to a cool one called hexalex? Anyone got that? Shame that Words With Friends is the only one that has an iPad version.

I had a game with Murray over the weekend that contained five bingos (Murray: FARRAGO, INCASES and ANTIPODE. Me: DUPLETS, SODDIER) and had a combined total score of 971! I felt like a pro there for a moment.
