where do you find your stuff when it gets lost?

this is a bit random, but i'm so tired of looking that i'm looking for new perspectives/ideas.

although i'd rather not admit this, i am probably one of the messier people, and in combination with the amount of stuff i got, it's bound to happen, but still, it's so annoying!

case: i've lost a bunch of fanzines, which i had kind of given up on, thinking that i accidently threw them away or something, in order to stop looking (because i really couldn't find them!). anyhow, then a couple of days ago, while i was "sorting" and going through stuff, i found them and was really happy! until today, were we have done massive new year cleaning, AND THEY'RE GONE AGAIN! i've looked EVERYWHERE at least three times and they are still gone.

i've looked in all boxes, drawers, underneath the bed, on every bookshell, in every folder, EVERYWHERE. so where are they? where does your stuff normally end up once they're gone? (and you've found them)

Could they be inside another book or magazine? In with your CDs maybe?

I hope they are not in the recycling, but it could be worth a look before someone/you takes it all away.

Also, anyone know where our battery charger is?

hey, thanks a lot! i found them actually laying waiting for me in a closet were i put them for safekeeping, but somehow your reply made me think of that, so yay!

my best guess is that your battery charger for some weird reason is awaiting you in your wardrobe!

I think your battery charger is in a bag that you have used when you've gone away somewhere, and not unpacked properly yet, or left the charger in it accidentally and put it back in a cupboard or something. Failing that, it could be in the loft or under the TV table.

I can't find my 2gb memory stick. Any suggestions for where it might be?

I once lost my purse which also contained my front door key. It was when I came to leave the house and the door was locked and it was nowhere to be found and I had to wait for one of my housemates to return home to be able to get out. I spent the next day or so methodically going through the house, looking in every cupboard under every item of furniture but couldn't find it. I usually left it near the front door and we always used to leave the front door open so the only thing I could think was that somebody had come in the front door, nicked it and locked the door behind them. Fearing that somebody had our front door key and might come and burgle us, I asked the landlord to change the lock. The landlord came and had a look at the lock and said he would have to charge me £10 for a new lock - I was on the dole at the time so this was quite a lot of money. While he was away I started getting ready for a second interview for a job and found the purse in my suit pocket - it had gone missing in the afternoon after returning from the first interview but I'd forgotten about that. The landlord returning but I was too embarrassed to tell him to find it and had to pay the tenner. So the moral of the story is the charger is the pocket of whatever clothes you were wearing when you lost it!

i find a remarkable number of lost items in bags i've not unpacked properly. your memory stick may be in your computer or around your neck.

or it could be in another electronic device, a phone perhaps.

I was walking home from work on monday and discovered that I had lost a glove. On Tuesday morning, I found the glove where someone had left it - at eye-level on a bush on my way to work.

I had a similar experience recently - I was walking up the road and there was a Knives and Fork fanzine from ages ago lying on the pavement and I realised that it was mine that had been living in my coat pocket since I was given it. The last time I'd worn that coat was about 2 days before and it was where I'd got out the taxi on the way home from the pub. I picked it up and put it back safely in my coat pocket even though it's now not in very good condition at all but it obviously has to stay there now!

It restores my fait in humanity when people leave scaves and gloves and stuff they've found on railings. I get a bit dewy-eyed.

I'm very tired.
