I get you. It's like that old saying about if a tweet fell over in a forest.

Horse electrocution? It's like THE FRICKING X FILES.

I know it's awful, but my first reaction was "I wonder if the bookies will issue refunds.."

I was covering a race meeting at Ayr for the Racing Post on Saturday afternoon that was reliant on the same live stream from Racing UK as Newbury, so couldn't help but see all the updates on the incident in Berkshire in between my races.

Absolutely horrifying - never witnessed or heard of anything like it in 30 years of following the horses, and "freak incident" doesn't begin to cover it.

Electrocution seems to be the irrefutable cause, and it's possible the electric cabling (which had lain dormant since 1992, according to some reports) under the paddock may have been unsettled by a contractor using an agricultural aggrivator or similar on the racecourse earlier in the week.

Ruminating any further on who's ultimately at fault doesn't seem particularly appropriate this side of a full enquiry, though, and won't bring back the two luckless animals involved anyway.

Needless to say, the halfwit who emailed me ranting about the Newbury course executive not checking racegoers for tazer guns, and how things'd be different if he ran racing, etc. got an uncharcteristically curt and rude reply.

I think we should be told if leicester city council have provisions in place should a load of students/people who look like students get together with jam and talc on themselves and shuffle about being zany making even passing old dears who live lives of perpetual fluffiness tut, sigh and mutter the words 'useless fucking wankers'- what will they do about that? apart from wonder how they ended up working in local government dealing with fatuous freedom of information requests that they have to respond to within 10 days despite having all this other work to do, deadlines to meet and the threat of losing their jobs in the next review... especially as this is all they've ever done, they're not qualified to do anything else... god, how did they end up here? who really are the walking dead, aye? who are they really?

right on

This morning on my way to work I saw a pigeon chasing a magpie. I'm sure that's some kind of terrible omen!

How about dad?!

Prostitute's daughter meets lovely man, marries him, has three children with him. Man dies. She then finds out her husband was also her father.

"Scientists un-discover island." An island seen on Google Earth and various other maps doesn't seem to exist. Is this the 'Lost' island in real life?

This worries me, where will they undiscover next?

What if I live there? What happens to me then?

I am not sure anyone should have this power.

"The closest landmass to the invisible island is the Chesterfields"

So that's what happened to them!

Hey, it'd beat Absolute 80s any day.

This video is LOVELY. Stop everything you're doing and watch it.

A boarded-up shop in Lancashire was found to have been left in exactly the same state as when it stopped trading more than 40 years ago:

'Elsie Tanner is as common as muck!' screams the headline on the front cover of Titbits

Thanks for that, Pete, that's cheered me up some

In Brazil they don't seem to care if people die of a heart attack after a 'joke'. Remember the Chuckie one? Or the spooky girl in the elevator? This is is well done though, and I admit I laughed:
