learning languages

Anyone have any experience with online language classes? If so, were you able to achieve some level of proficiency without books or an instructor? The other day I started using two websites/apps (Duolingo and Mango) for German, Spanish, and French. I'm sad that I'm already forgetting the German I learned after only 7 months, so I want to refresh and keep up. Everyone knows Spanish, so I thought that would be a good one to learn, and I'll never be able to pronounce French properly, but it would be cool to watch a movie without subtitles. If I can get to a satisfactory level with these, I want to do Czech, Polish, Italian, Cherokee, Arabic... like I usually try to always have a book I'm reading, and I also want to always have a language I'm learning. Anyway, have any of yinz tried doing it this way? Experiences? Suggestions?

I've not got much experience, but I did enjoy duolingo to refresh some of my knowledge of French and German. Didn't stick with it too long, but that's my fault.

I've been trying the Duolingo app for Spanish - I can see how it works for some people, but I'm finding it frustrating because in all the languages I've learned in the past, I've done the thing where you learn conjugation tables. Duolingo is a lot more freeform so my verb endings are rubbish...

Yeah not having tables of conjugations totally flies in the face of my instincts. I decided though, to just relax and do the courses and hopefully it will eventually click.

Duolingo and Mango are both okay, better if used together, but it is a lot of work for really slow results. (I'm fucking with 4 languages though) I got a program where you can make flashcards (Anki) which helps too. I think I'm mostly going to try to keep up the German I already have and hit French the hardest since it's the most difficult. I got a textbook from the library, so we'll see.
