31/7 Ravioli Me Away/Thee Ahs/The 100th Anniversary +1 - LDN

Post by Trev » Tue Mar 25, 2014 14:55

Just a mark yr diaries post.

Odd Box at The Buffalo Bar.

Playing the show:

Ravioli Me Away // Thee Ahs // The Hundredth Anniversary
(one more band to be added)

It will be £5 in advance and £6 walk-up.

PS - This is the day after my Birthday. Some might call it a party.

Some Blurb:

>> Ravioli Me Away <<
http://raviolimeaway.co.uk/

Ravioli Me Away are a dangerously ambitious and delusional all-girl jazzy, post-pop-punk, hip-funk outfit with a stylistic theme spanning all past, present and future human cultures and subcultures. Consider vintage Bananarama played with twice the sass and urgency, only reflected in the eyes of a much overworked and downright exhausted Julie Burchill on acid.

Featuring members of Plug and Spin Spin The Dogs, Ravioli Me Away don't shy away from the impeccable vocal melodies and clattersome hooks you'd expect. Their debut EP was released on Upset The Rhythm in January 2014.They are currently recording their debut album that will be released this summer on Contraceptive Records.

>> Thee Ahs <<
http://theeahs.com/

Thee AHs are a band from Vancouver, Canada and they play (what they describe as) Black Bubblegum Pop!

Thee Ahs have recorded and self-released two full length albums: ”Thee AHs Nation” released in 2011 and “Future Without Her” released in 2013. They have just recently finished their third album “Corey’s Coathangers” and are releasing it this March with Jigsaw Records and Birdtapes!

The band have toured across Canada, the United States (where they played NYC Popfest in 2013). This show will form part of their European tour and will come hot after their appearance at this years Indietracks.

>> The Hundredth Anniversary <<
http://www.thehundredthanniversary.com/

Brighton four-piece The Hundredth Anniversary were formed in January 2012. Their atmospheric and precisely structured songs marry shimmering guitars, rigorous percussion and ethereal vocals to make swirling noise-pop. They released stuff via Reeks of Effort, Tiny Lights and most recently a stunning 5 track EP 'Wreckers' on Odd Box.

The band have played shows with Tyrannosaurus Dead, Just Handshakes, Fear Of Men, Waxahatchee and Swearin' over the past 2 years.

Praise for 'Wreckers'

"Owes something to MBV's disembodied vocals over gales of feedback and something else to The Sundays' spectral atmosphere" - Did Not Chart

"At the end of 19 minutes of brooding, simmering intensity the listener feels as though they have experienced something; a simple truth that can’t be denied" - Brighton Noise

Had a rethink. I'm still in the rethink phase. Fuck knows if I know what I'm doing. Think I'm gonna take it one show at a a time and see where I land.

Yep, on time and everything. To be fair they turned up at Indietracks. But at Butterly. And then got lost (in car) between there and Swanwick Junction. Thus missing their slot. Talking to them last night they were mega sad to have missed their slot.

Seconded, Trev. They hollered me at Butterley, having travelled down from playing at Tramlines, to get directions to the car park at Swanwick Junction. Unfortunately, we couldn't find the way, despite asking a few dog-walking locals and we ended up back at Butterley, lugging gear onto the train. By the time they got to the site, it was too late for them to play their slot.
It's so easy when the door is wide open.
