Big Pink Cake Weekender - Bristol. October 23rd & 24th

Post by bigpinkcake » Fri May 14, 2010 21:59

We had so much fun last year, we're doing it again!

Saturday sees us kicking off with acoustic sessions in the Cube cinema bar. This is followed by the longed-for premiere of the Sarah Records Documentary in the cinema - yay!
Evening sees us switch to the stage of The Cube with it's full-size cinema screen so bands can play to a film of their choice.

Sunday we revert to our usual haunt - The Mother's Ruin, for an afternoon and evening of brilliant bands and great guest DJs.

Keep this weekend free.

Go west.

Might I suggest the Hi LIfe Companion as an act to appear at your splendiferous event.....?

It is a huge shame that our our Weekender is clashing with The Edinburgh Popfest. Luckily we're all friends and wish each other all the best for each indiepop extravaganza and wish we could attend both events! Picking dates for us has been a nightmare this year as we're both busy people and it needed to be during a school holiday of some kind - hence October half-term (which has been booked with the venues since February).

Maybe it's just semantics but I don't think the term 'interfering' was a good choice.

I could have sworn I posted in this thread saying how great it was last year and could we have Days back, but the thread is devoid of my reply. I was drunk when I thought I'd posted and I'm drunk now. If I don't read this tomorrow I am going to be making big lifestyle changes.

Oh yes please, have the divine Days back or some equally swoonsome Swedish band (Boat Club, Twig, ...)
I sooo hope I can make it this year ...
I deserve something joyous to look forward to after the Copenhagenpopfest debacle (I'm not suggesting the popfest was a debacle, lol ... but that volcanic ash cloud made me a very unhappy and frustrated person) and how shit work and daily life is at the moment ...

Oh, and if you could arrange to have the lovely Cats on Fire, that would be pure heaven. I've yet to see them live (I know, somebody up there seems to prevent me from ever seeing them live).

Oh I hope the volcanic ash cloud lets up to let you come over for this, dear Bart! Autumn and Bristol and indiepop and you! Wonderful.

We're teaming up with Oxjam and their month of events that are working to raise funds for Oxfam too. We'll be donating a percentage of profits from the Big Pink Cake weekender to them.

Good work! I used to do the same when I was involved in running an indie night when I was at university. Can't wait!

I think I might come to this. I wanted to go WAAAAAY up there somehwere for their pop thing, but Bristol will be way easier/cheaper I think.

I probably won't make this either, but it's a dream that will be viable for longer!
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

Ooh, I hope they do announce one of your favourites so that you do come over. :-) I've had a heck of a time trying to harangue names out of Matthew but I think names will drop in early July after the end of the school term. I know of one band playing (because they posted about it on facebook) but it is not one of your Swedish loves!

The Swedish Loves? Are they a tribute band?

Thanks folks. I'll be here all week.

Due to a huge music festival taking place in Bristol that same weekend and a giant cock-up with venue arrangements we've decided to postpone our weekender to a later date.

Looking on the bright side though.....We can go to Edinburgh and so can you! Hooray!!!!

Oh no ! And I've already taken time off from work on the friday and the monday especially for this (probably my last days off before the xmas break).
Hm, ...
Hope the Edinburgh popfest program is great, so I can go to that instead !

Venue double-booked? I'm getting deja-vu!

At least you got 4 months' notice! (not 4 days)
Cheers!
