Unfortunately, Japanese Sleepers have had to pull out of this one cos their Mum said they weren't allowed out that night.

Replacing them are Slowcoaches.

I wrote a tiny bit about them here:

Lovely stuff, count me in. My ex-boss sings for the mighty Veto, and they were very good indeed when I popped by the The Chameleon to see him/them a few weeks ago.

Aye, that's him - I only found out about this 'cos he sent an invite to his Facebook chumbags (I am only an irregular visitor to this corner of this here internet lark).

Small world etc and so on.

Yeah, and Indiehorse is making some cake for free.

I'd recommend you go to the London show the night before, too.

Here's a nice review of Slowcoaches third ever gig last week, or something.
Bands like Slowcoaches are what get me out of the house of an evening. A girl bassist who stands on tiptoes to sing, a good looking guitarist with a nice line in blissed out stares and a floppy-haired drummer flailing away at the back. They start out with a one chord rumble (the bass so loud and distorted i decide right away to buy one asap) which morphs into a lurching, slightly ricketty instrumental and then launch into a short set of fierce, brash, shouty songs. I know nothing about them but they do a good impression of a band setting out to conquer the world, a bedsit project, drunk on enthuiasm, laying down its manifesto, perhaps for the first time. Accomplishment is not a word that springs to mind, but why would it? There's nothing terribly complex about music as a whole and rock and roll is the simplest kind. It's supposed to sound like this. It's supposed to look like this and most importantly of all, this is the way it is supposed to feel.

Apologies for not making this one. I think the prospect of getting drunk in the sweaty Chameleon and having to go to work at 8am the next day (not that it's taxing. I've done about 2 minutes work since I got here) put me off. Liv seemed to have enjoyed it though.

How's using the Chameleon for gigs working out?

I wasn't as shitfaced as I've been the last few weekends.

I absolutely adore the Chameleon. Great atmosphere, great landlord, great soundman, good drinks. The downside is the room itself isn't ideal. Especially when busy.

I was drunker than I should have been, based on the fact I drank A LOT more (read as: twice what I drank yesterday) at Allo, Darlin' the other week. Hooray for Ian coming back!

It's the easiest, best place I've ever dealed with. They make it so much more relaxed. You ought to give it a go.
