01/03 - francois & atlas mountains/animal magic tricks+more

Post by lynsosaurus » Thu Feb 12, 2009 16:46

hello anorakers. i'm putting on a gig in a few weeks. why don't you all come along?

sunday 1st march
half my heart beats presents:

francois and the atlas mountains
animal magic tricks
withered hand
meursault
men daimler

at the flying duck, 142 Renfield Street, Glasgow
doors at 7.30pm
entry £5

i'm not very good with band descriptions, so i'll leave you to explore all of those yourselves. suffice to say, there isn't a band on that list that is anything short of brilliant.

I saw Francois do an experimental solo set the other week, it was awesome. He had his eyes closed the whole set, it properly freaked me out.

Whoa, I wish I could make this - Animal Magic Tricks is lovely, and I'm liking the sound of Francois from what people have said on here. Withered Hand is/are superb too. Good work, Lyns.

Hmm, it is tempting. Depends on train times and getting the next day off work. My official line for now is "I'll let you know".

I've just changed my Facebook RSVP to 'maybe attending' *gasp*.

i've updated the first post to reflect the fact that meursault will also now be playing.

and there may be djing afterwards. but not by me, because i'll probably be too drunk by then. much like i was last night when i posted that overly enthusiastic post.

Lyns - will the bands be finished in time for the last bus home at midnight?

I have to say as well, you've done yourself proud with this one, what a cracking night it'll be!

the plan is to have all the bands finished by 11.15ish, so that those of an easterly disposition can make it home. things might run a wee bit late, as these things tend to, but hopefully it should all work out fine. the bands will definitely be finished by the last bus, if not the last train.

Blimey, I'm not sure I can handle this much goodness in one night - I'll be swooning all over the shop.

Frànçois has been consistently making some of the best music ever over the last five years. He is incredible. You would be a fool to miss out on this.

Men Diamler is also AMAZING live. Do not miss him if you like stamping and singing too loudly.

I wish i could come to this lynsey!
stitch-stitch records is arctic circle, frànçois, i know i have no collar, ladybird, the lonely ponies, the middle ones, the mountain parade, my two toms, ray rumours, roxanne:theearlyyears & team brick

Francois and the Atlas Mountains are one of the most stunningly amazing live acts I've seen in the last five years. Great to see that they're doing popshows again. And them and Withered Hand on the same bill... woo! *melts* I wish I could be there... it looks amazing - good luck with it Lyns!

Just back from an ace Withered Hand show in Embra tonight so those coming to this gig are in for a treat. I think Love In The Time Of Ecstasy may be the perfect song. He's some man is Dan. Good old Dan.

Anyway, I made a recording of their set if anyone's interested in a copy - the louder ones are a bit rough sounding cos I was standing pretty close but you get the gist of it!

I'd love a copy, Chris, if it's not too much trouble. They seem to sound even better live than they do on record, judging by those videos on Youtube.

This gig looks like the best thing ever, by the way.
