Half My Heart Beats - an indiepop club night, Glasgow

Post by Colin » Tue Aug 05, 2008 14:05

*********Update - have a look at the blog and myspace profile for more info.************

As some of you know, Lynsey (lynsosaurus) and I are starting a new indiepop club night in Glasgow, to be called Half My Heart Beats. We’ve now got a venue and a date for the first night, which we’re very excited about.
It will be at The Flying Duck at 142 Renfield Street (although please note that entrance is now via Renfield Court which is the lane off Renfrew Street, opposite Cineworld).
The first night will be on Saturday 13th September and it will run from 10pm to 3am (free before 11pm, £4 after). For those of you who know the Duck, our night will be in the kitchen area with another club night taking place at the same time in the main part of the club. The kitchen is quite small, but we’re hoping it will make for a good atmosphere and there’s plenty of seating and a dancefloor for anyone who feels like dancing, which we hope people will.
I’ll write more about the music ‘policy’ nearer the time, but the remit is going to be indiepop, both current and classic. We don’t want to feel completely tied to any particular genre though, so expect to hear 60s girl groups and anything else we feel like playing that’ll get people up and dancing. Lynsey and I will be DJing (for the first time – eek), but we’re also hoping to have guest DJ slots once the club is up and running
We should have posters, flyers and all that stuff quite soon, but we wanted to get the basic information out there so people can plan ahead if they want to come along. If you can’t make it to the first one, we will be on on the second Saturday of every month for the foreseeable future.
Lynsey – if I’ve missed anything, please feel free to jump in.

Toast? I'm there!

This sounds great. Good luck with it. Maybe I'll get up there one day.

Heeee! Congratulations! I can't believe you'll be clashing with Spiral Scratch on the second Saturday of every month, that's sad. I might come to yours instead though, seeing as you've got free toast.

whaaaat?! i didn't think about that. it's not 100% certain that it will be on that day for any future nights, so we'll see. i think that's the only night we can do it at the moment, but it might change. i will cry if i can never ever go to a spiral scratch night.

i see a possible DJ LINK UP OPPORTUNITY.

Ooh. We're up on Edinburgh on the second week on October. Maybe. Is it every month?

The fact that we even *worry* about two indiepop nights, that are 400 miles apart, clashing because we want to be everywhere and do everything just proves how ace everything is!

The only time I've ever been to The Flying Duck was when Monkey Swallows The Universe played back in February. It's a braw wee place though, so I'm very tempted to head along to this...

Good Luck Colin and Lyns!

If I ever find myself in Glasgow I shall go (I work there about twice a year - so the timing would have to be spot on!).
not really here

I hope this goes really well and hope I get the chance to come up to this at some point.

You deserve to make a roaring success of it.

Well done guys. Hopefully I'll make it some day.

Those of us on here not actively involved in the indiepop scene are becoming a real minority!

Good luck with this, Colin and Lynsey! Now that NPL ended, Glasgow needs new pop nights. I am sure it's gonna be great. I am in Glasgow for a weekend in October and November (butcher boy gigs, best friends birthday), so I hope I can come to this.

Cool beans.

I'm not going to be in Glasgow when the first one is on, but after that, I'll probably become a regular.
