Manchester

Post by whininggirl » Mon Oct 08, 2007 6:10 pm

I don't live there and in fact have never been there.

BUT I am flying in and out of MAN on my way to and from Newcastle and Scotland at the end of November. My 11am flight out of MAN on Sunday, December 2 will force me to spend the night in Manchester and not in Newcastle (boooo...more time in Newcastle is more time for fun).

So I have two questions:

1. Is it easy to get from the city to the airport early on a Sunday

and if the answer to # 1 is yes:

2. If so, where should I stay for maximum Saturday night fun and minimum fuss catching a bus at 8am to the airport?

but if the answer to # 1 is no, I will just stay out at a hotel at the airport.

Manchester means corduroy in Swedish... which makes the name "Manchester Airport" sound a bit silly. I love flying to Sweden from Manchester.

It's not very indie-pop but I'm heading to Manchester on Thursday for Futuresonic. http://www.futuresonic.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Very excited to see Wire!!! And to check out Yacht (from Blow) afterwards.
And will probably head to a bit of the Sounds from the Other City festival on Sunday.
Some of the bands look really good. Especially psyched to see the Declining Winter as I really love Hood.

Is anyone else going to either of these festivals?

Yeah, I'm going to be at Sounds From the Other City. I'm really excited about seeing David Thomas Broughton and Last Harbour (who, for info, Woodbine from here is in). And lots of other people too. Beach Fuzz sound interesting, and I'm going to have to try to catch Cath and Phil Tyler.

Except I'm not actually going to be there because I spectacularly overslept this morning and missed my train. Doesn't matter quite as much as it normally would as they're doing it acoustic anyway.

Our violinist is in The Declining Winter too by the way.

You will see the full ROCK version of Last Harbour one day Andy!

SO... Good people of Manchester... I have two tickets for the My Bloody Valentine gig on the 29th June (Sunday), but ticketholder #2 has gone and double-booked himself. I know of someone with a spare Saturday ticket, and therefore feel I ought to sell my pair for the Sunday and buy that spare Saturday one instead. Does anyone here fancy them? Or does anyone have a pair of ticketless friends who may be interested? I think they were about £22, so somewhere near that price would be nice. Offers by PM or whatever.

My band are in Manchester on 13 April to do a Marc Riley session. Is there anyone playing to go see afterwards? Or, even better, anywhere for us to play?

It's so easy when the door is wide open.

Hello!
I've been looking for a good arcade to go to next weekend. What's the Namco one like in the Trafford Centre?
Are there plenty of games?
And do they have a bar?
Thanks!

Hey, Mancunians and adopted Mancunians.

I'll be in Manchester for the weekend next weekend (4/5/6 September). Does anyone have any tips - things which might be mildly interesting but not known to an outsider? Could be a pub, a bar, a gallery, a cafe, a shop, a park, a district. I don't know. It doesn't have to be indiepop-related, but it could be. I'm not totally devoid of ideas; just thought I'd see if anyone had good tips. I like a stray off the beaten track when I go somewhere.

Thanks, Mancs.
