In the Dutch first division Almere City FC lost to Sparta Rotterdam with 12-1 today. It's a shared biggest loss in the professional Dutch competition ever (1972: Ajax - Vitesse). Sparta's Johan Voskamp scored 8 times, a new record.

Yeah! Martin O'Neill to Nottingham Forest according to the Sunday Mirror. Those guys know what they're talking about.

This preview of West Brom vs Sunderland is gloriously impenetrable.
West Brom manager Roberto Di Matteo is probably still fresh in the memories of six years of zero lick the hands of Chelsea on Saturday. Well, have the ability to put in front of home fans who take hawthorn Sunderland on Saturday.

I think that might become my new 'go to' website for sports reports and previews

this cricket report:
Sangakarra as a Self Spoiler
(presumably a euphemism)

is the first one I've ever read from start to finish, it's a compelling piece of writing
But now all the praises of Kumar Sangakarra are went in to drain as the out come of the most non spiritual incident happened in the India Sri Lanka match

That's completely ace.

I like how 'football' and 'soccer' are separate categories even though all the links in both are about Proper Football.

I hadn't had a chance to read it until now, but as opening sentences go, this is up there with the best of them: "The separation of football and the intellect isn't always a wholly bad thing, but too many people make a career of it."

Just read the rest of it - that is a brilliant article. James Corden: as ubiquitous as sadness.

I like how Taylor Parkes now has an official sideline in obliterative critiques of football-related cloying television presenters.

amazing:
"Abbey Clancy was hired to do what Abbey Clancy does; the backroom boys worked out some skits about how Uruguay's players had long hair and looked like girls; a polo-shirted audience whooped with well-marshalled efficiency. "Lovely stuff!" barked Corden, banging his cards on the desk. Somewhere in Britain, another library closed."
i went looking for some other stuff taylor parkes has written, didn't realise he was mid 90s melody maker staff. then i read the piece on his blog about his dad dying of cancer and proceeded to spend the entire afternoon at work sniffing and rubbing my eyes. he seems to be a pretty good writer. cheers for posting that up whoever did that. fogofideas was in there before him mind.

erm, FOREST eh? that gary crosby eh?

I wonder what Taylor Parkes would've made of Robbie Savage's side-splitting oneliners on Sunday night

"Squillaci? All I know about him is that he has a funny name."

My favourite was, on being asked to, y'know, offer an opinion as the match analyst on whether Tevez is better deployed as a lone frontman or with a strike partner: "what are you asking me for?! HAHAHAHA!". Embarrassing.

His best bit of commentary last night was where he was harping on about how Man City were holding onto the ball and dominating midfield and immediately followed that up by saying that what Lipewl really needed to get back into the game was another centre-forward.

Has anyone seen the new Sky Sports News layout? The words are now so small they make me feel like an arthritic mole. I literally had to crouch about six inches from the telly last night to follow Town's score.

At least it cushions the blow of Uncle Rupert taking it off Freeview.

Silver Linings of Non-League Status, part 4: at least we can get free commentary online via Radio Humberside now.

Ah, nice one.

Lisa appears to have paid for a package the means we still get SSN. I can't work out if that's a good or bad thing.
