gin!

Post by lynsosaurus » Sun Feb 17, 2008 12:21 am

I went to buy a new bottle of gin in Oddbins the other day, and was advised to try this lovely bastard. It is perhaps the best gin I have ever had.

That's a lovely little motherfucker, that one. We gave some to JamieC for his birthday last year and I had some and it was bloody wonderful. It's strong though, I felt horribly ill the next day. Worth it though, it's definitely something special.

I love gin. I can't believe it's taken this long for anorak to have a gin thread. WHAT WERE WE THINKING?

I knwp well, sharom.

I had some gin earlier, in the pub. It was alright. Pub gin is always just alright. Except for when they run out of tonic water and give you soda water WITHOUT TELLING YOU, and then it's just fucking horrible and unforgivable. Bastards.

I'm not sure I like gin except when it's mixed with grapefruit juice.

And tonic is scary.

I'm going to get put in a figure four over this.

I'm okay with that. Just don't ignore me in the gin thread, or I won't bring you Dominican rum.

You're all mad as a box of badgers - gin goes with cranberry juice. It's so tremendous I sort of want to bathe it in sometimes.

i only drink gin and tonic to prevent me catching malaria.

and because the queen mum is essentially a role model to me. i love the following:

dick francis novels (the winner of the 2:15 at exeter did it)
having a face that looks like a melted vagina with a wedding hat stapled to it
hating the blicks
existing purely on regular injections of swan DNA
teeth that look they're made from marzipan
being really quite dead
When the people are being beaten with a stick, they are not much happier if it is called 'the People's Stick.'

Lately I have been drinking rather a lot of gin. My local serves Hendricks and tonic over cucumber and I really rather like it. They ran out last week though. I'd obviously been in a bit too often. Ahem.

Anyway, I searched out a thread about booze and was particularly pleased to see this one dedicated to gin because I wanted somewhere to waffle on about my suprise earlier today upon opening a boring looking box, sent by a customer containing largely boring tecnical work type stuff, only to find that she had also included a bottle of her homemade sloe gin for me. The darling. I'll be partaking of that tonight, me thinks. Hurrah for kind customers and an extra big hurrah for lovely booze.
Give over.

I have been drinking hardly any spirits at all for the last six months or so, but this thread has reminded me to have a nice glass of Tanqueray.

I started drinking Gin & Pineapple after a character in a book was drinmking it. It's bloody mega!

Though as the character was Humbert from Lolita I'll not be trying much else he does in that book.

Gin and ginger beer is what I tend to drink at home/at festivals. I bloody love it. I reckon I'll give pineapple a try too though. I'm intrigued.
Give over.

Last week I went to the pub with my best friends and they bought me some exquisite gin because I was sad: it tasted of Shakespeare's sonnets and made me the best tipsy ever. And now I can't go buy a cup of tea from the café at work because they've got that gin on the shelf and I look longingly at it at half eight in the morning and they might talk and I might lose the job I hate.

I tried a sample of William Chase marmalade vodka in John Lewis once and that was really good.

We've been really getting into gin in the past year. We currently have Juniper Green at the moment, which is pretty good and Edinburgh spiced orange gin. The orange one is lower in alcohol though, so not great when mixed with tonic water. I think we're going to push the boat out and get something fancier next time, possibly Liverpool gin (which we also tried a sample of and liked - clearly I see out booze samples...)

I need to try some of the gin & pineapple or bitter lemon suggestions here. I only ever have it with tonic or on it's own.
Just be nice to me.
