Knew youd like it.

I could never decide if the Coopers or http://www.princeofwalesfoxfield.co.uk/ is my favourite pub outside of Sheffield, and when you say you are from Sheffield people ask if you know the Wellington.

The Wenlock Arms in North London is under the threat of demolition. It will be a tragedy if it is lost. More on the campaign to save it here. A few of us are going down on the 9th of October for possibly our last ever pints in there. If you want to join us PM me!

There was a bit of discussion about this on the London thread, Tom.

Dan's not comprehensive guide to Manchester:

The Marble Arch - possibly the best pub in the city, attached to the Marble Beers micro brewery. Marble are easily making the best ale in this city, if not the North West, at the moment. Gorgeous Victorian tiled pub, sloping floor towards the bar, great food. Can't fault the place. NB - local for the posties too. You can always trust a postman to pick a good pub. Aside - their new bar in the Northern Quarter captures the same spirit, and has amazing cheese boards.

The Kings Arms - strictly speaking, this is a Salford pub. Wonderful collected crap adorns the interior, to go with the 6 to 8 guest ales they regularly have on. This is also one of the best venues around, though often criminally overlooked due to its just out of the city location.

The Crown and Kettle - located in an old law court, this place once again has a really nice interior. Usually 5 guest ales on. Used to be a haunt of the press, now just a bit quiet as it isn't quite in the city centre.

The Temple - bar in an underground toilet. The hole in Guy Garvey's neighbourhood in Grounds For Divorce. Wonderful jukebox, terrific bottled beers from around the world.

Common - fast becoming the heart of Manchester. Great selection of bottled beers, interesting lager on tap, two hand pumps for ale. Usually got Flowers and one guest ale on. Great food. Very good indiepop night every 2nd and 4th Wednesday (*cough*thatsus*cough*)

And loads more. If people are ever in this part of the world and fancy a few good beers then give us a shout, I'm more than happy to conduct a tour. Here are a few words I wrote for CreativeTourist.com about pubs and whatnot - http://www.creativetourist.com/featured ... chitecture

Oooh, thanks for that. I'd really like to go to the Marble place: it's moopind's favourite pub, and I tend to trust his judgement entirely on these issues after he pointed me to the sublime Coopers Tavern.

I always seem to end up in the Lass o' Gowrie when I go to Manchester though.

I think it was the King's Arms where a few of us spent a long, boozy evening on an Anorak meet-up a year or two back. Is it right by Salford station? There was a woman in the men's toilets trying to persuade someone to have sex with her. Great pub.

A few years back the best pubs in Mcr included The Britons Protection, Peveril Of The Peak, The Albert (Rusholme), Fringe Bar, The Castle (Oldham St) and Sand Bar.

Britons, Pev and Sand were all on my nearly list. I feel like another post will be coming soon. The Castle on the other hand should have been in, 100%. They have just finished a complete refit of the whole pub, and it is looking amazing. It retains all the charm that it used to have, but is actually somewhere that most people wouldn't mind to go now. A lovely boozer, right in the middle of the Northern Quarter. Oh, and the Cumbria Way is a permanent fixture on the bar, a lovely ale.

Mmmmm. The Marble Arch. Did I say my favourite? I don't know if I have a favourite, but I have a top 5 or 6 in no particular order and The Marble is certainly one of them (I suppose that makes it a joint favourite - I'm just so capricious so it depends what day you catch me on). I'm going to go tomorrow, as I have the day off. I'm like Rod Stewart, me. That and some art. It'll be ace.

Oooh you.

Vinnie said it was your favourite, I think. We were sorely tempted to go over there last time we were recording in Manc with Pete B.

Interesting. I may have to pay them a visit next time we're there. It's just around the corner from one of the few places that serve actual Mexican food (ie not Tex-Mex) in London.

The Harp in London is Camra's new UK pub of the year:
http://www.camra.org.uk/page.aspx?o=333588

I mentioned the Harp on the blog when I visited in October - great place:

Anyone familiar with any of those runners-up?
