Nuts!

Post by squirrelboutique » Tue Apr 01, 2008 6:00 pm

This is a thread about nuts. Feel free to get all pedanty/pedantish when someone posts here and his or her post is clearly about legumes.

I brought some almonds with me to work today, and I just ate one that was concave. How'd that happen?

clearly there is witchcraft at work there.

i had some brazil nuts earlier. i think brazil nuts and pistachio nuts are my favourites now. i used to be a big fan of the cashew, but it's put me off of late with its many disguises.

Brazil nuts are too large a nut to be an enjoyable nut.

I'm all for pistachios though. Cashews are overrated.

well, the good thing about brazil nuts is that it's almost like two nuts in one. you get two bites out of your average brazil nut, and that has to be a good thing in anyone's book.

I just can't be bothered with a two-bite nut. And I think brazil nuts look a little like big scary bugs.

So do almonds! And I don't have to go biting those. They're a pop and chew sort of nut.

Vitamin E is good for skin, I think.

If you think progress is spending 2/3 more time doing something...

i'm not a fan of the brazil either. it's too big and lumbering and almost...smug.

almonds, on the other hand, rock my world. my dad's friend did this thing when i was in canada where he put a bowl of almonds + some olive oil into the microwave and then added some salt and it was magical! it was like toasted almonds but minus the oven.

i could do with some almonds right now, actually.

Macadamia nuts, Brazil nuts, almonds... I can't even choose a favourite. Still, I hardly ever eat nuts. Why are nuts so expensive?

(or are they not? I'll go check tomorrow...)

They are expensive! And nut butters other than peanut butter are even more expensive.

I recently saw a $16 jar of almond butter.

Pecan! Yes.

Peh-khan or Pee-can? I gravitate towards peh-khan.

Cover that shit in some karo and bake yourself a pie.

i was going to say the same thing!

unless you've been eating emerald cashews, in which case i'd understand.

dave's top nuts
1. cashew
2. almond
3. walnut
4. pistachio
5. macadamia

my least favourite nut would have to be the filbert.

i'm amazed noone's mentioned hazelnuts yet! i made gianduja icecream a few weeks ago with toasted hazelnuts, and it was bloody gorgeous. i've been eating the leftover nuts ever since, and they're definitely my current favourite.

almonds are ace too. almond milk, mmm. also, tigernuts! not that i've ever eaten any, but horchata is delicious.

i'm afraid i'm also a cashew skeptic. bleh.
