Robert Downey Jr. to take one of the first series episodes to the BIG SCREEN.

Jesse Armstrong is on the writing team. Chris Morris isn't.

Jesse Armstrong and Chris Morris on the writing team.
Thought that was the best episode of the first series.
Chris Morris isn't on the writing team though. Just mentions that Armstrong's worked with him.

And finally saw the new Black Mirror. Really good. It was the cliff scene that did it for me.

This week's Black Mirror was a bit bleak and unpleasant then.
SpoilerShow
I was a bit meh until the twist and final 15 minutes, which was pretty upsetting. It's like what will happen if the Mail and Sun get their way. So like real life in 5 years time then. Yeah.

Yeah, although I read so many tweets about i being bleak last night, that I was almost over-prepared when it came to watching it today!
Anyone who's enjoying Black Mirror should also really try and catch up with Utopia on 4OD. In a fairly similar style to Black Mirror, incredibly well written and every episode looks stunning. Last one (of 6) is on tonight.

Last night's reminded me of the 80s version of Day of the Triffids. I think it's offally overrated. Reminds me of 80s sci-fi, but with higher production values. And so much screaming. DULL.

it's science fiction, sam, or speculative fiction... you don't like any of that on principle, remember? it's like if I watched some formula one I'd complain it's just cars going round and round and less fun than scalectrix which is much the same thing but smaller and more fun

I wouldn't say I enjoyed the second episode because it made me feel warm and fuzzy but I liked it for being a bit on the bleak side and being a tad satirical:
SpoilerShow
accessory to child abduction/killing films murder of child on phone, 'justice' is meted out by a populist noel edmonds/jeremy kyle type on telly in the form of this 'turning the tables' type daily torture show for entertainment purposes... where's the justice? what are the similarities between the 'guilty' complicit accessory to the crime and the audience eager to dole out this rather singular form of justice? both the accessory/audience seem to get their kicks from witnessing and recording for posterity the misery/torture of another, both are encouraged to do so by a supposedly apparently charismatic male- it's ironicals, innit?
I liked that I didn't know what was going on for most of the episode, that I wasn't sure where my sympathies should lie for large parts of it and that watching it again I suspect other things may reveal themselves (because I'll know what the reveal is, this time)

tv science fiction of this type, that sort of 24 hours or a fortnight into the future thing is easy fodder for telly where budgets are low- it's interesting you compare it with the eighties 'day of the triffids' because that was rather good, the more recent one with fucking eddie izzard was the really shit one... the eighties one was some ordinary folk coping with an alien plant invasion, the more recent one was how the nobs and the military cope... by focussing on that shower something pretty fundamental was lost... so the comparison you make isn't so much a put down as a thumbs up... on your side!

I got the Day of the Triffids book for Christmas one year. I didn't ask to be born.

Ooh, I thought it was proper good this week, even better than the previous one. I liked the fact that
SpoilerShow
the baying behaviour of the audience was so reminiscent of the press frenzy that accompanies serious crime cases, managing to take the piss out of the media and the justice system in a oner.

It was a decent enough story, genuinely creepy and with a nice twist, but the screaming was really annoying. He should watch a bit more vintage tales of the unexpected, where they usually just do a giant scream at the end. No-one likes constant screaming.

it was the constant buzzing at the end of one episode of 'tales of the not that unexpected' that freaked me out

It was the realisation that's what women looked like that freaked me out.

well, I enjoyed jon hamm, and two game of throners, and rafe spall but ultimately that was very silly
SpoilerShow
hayley wondered what kind of future is it where 'code' can provide an admissable confession... and a number of the other 'twists' were telegraphed way too early so weren't twists at all... maybe we thought about it too deeply but it seemed set up to be something profound and as it invited that level of inspection and speculation, fell apart because of it

It seemed so keen to set up a clever ending that the build-up suffered a bit, especially the section that I'm calling MY BRAIN IS IN AN EGG, which was all set-up without really having any story. I was quite impressed with it as a whole though.

I didn't notice the Game Of Throners until you mentioned Andy but I did spot Jack Dee's daughter's boyfriend from Lead Balloon.

I enjoyed it. I spotted the plot twists a mile off but that didn't spoil it for me.

Loving how the Weekly Wipe has become a sort of slightly edgy Harry Hill's TV Burp.

This is not a criticism. I genuinely am loving it.

I think the world needs Monster Munch medicine. I just realised it's only one step away from those Bassetts chewy vitamins you can get.

And that Russell Brand impersonation is uncanny!
Just be nice to me.
