xoxo Gossip Girl

Post by squirrelboutique » Wed Sep 10, 2008 00:02

Yup! I am dangerously addicted to this having managed to watch the entire first season over the weekend.

It has everything I hate about people (freaking summering in the Hamptons, or summering anywhere for that matter), but I cannot stop watching. Blair! Gosh, I'd hate her so bad if I knew her in real life. And Chuck! Oooohhh. He's so hateful.

I'm anxiously awaiting the finishing of the download of last night's episode.

I know we have at least two fans here. I'm looking at you, let it ride and mop.

I do love Gossip Girl so much! I loved the second episode. The Duchess is quite fun, yes! I think Chuck has just gone to another level of awesomeness. I love him so much.

It's good that Dan has had time to be a casanova as his smug horrid face already suggested it all through seaosn one and no one bought that he was inexperienced with women, haha.

Jenny, love her. You have to ignore the real Jenny in the books for that to work, but yeah. Love her. Blair is of course great, I love the balance between her striving for the Audrey Hepburn naive innocense appearance while being completely in charge and manipulative. It's a nice conflict.

We haven't seen anything of Mama van der Woodsen so far, have we? Hmm. Wonder where she's at.

I love shit like The Hamptons. LOVE IT. It's so horribly scandalous and offensively rich. Makes such a good setting for tv shows (I always loved the SATC Hamptons episodes, love the GG ones, and there are a billion other that work too there)

ooo, i love gossip girl at the moment. they had the pilot on my flight back to london (haha) and i got hooked and made alec watch the whole first series with me.

the first couple of episodes of the new series have been great, too. i'm not keen on the british guy though, i hope chuck gets rid of him soon, although him and blair work better this way. it would be kind of boring if they were in a relationship. oh and i love blair's hair bands, i really want to go out and get some big hair bands with big bows or flowers or something.

what was jenny like in the books?

alec and i were convinced that serena was actually 30 or something, but she's younger than me! what's up with that.

A friend of a friend was telling me that she was in the Hamptons with her family this summer, and she went to this big fashion event thing, and then afterwards she went to the Ralph Lauren store WITH Ralph Lauren. So they were in the store chatting, and this woman walked in, looked around and asked, "Is this Ralph Lauren?" and Ralph Lauren smiled and said, "Yes it is." The woman frowned and said "Oh, wrong store!" and turned right around and left.

I love stories like that.

But I also love stories about hot townie lifeguards in Camaros. I don't think enough attention was paid to that lifeguard. I bet the old S would've had more fun with him.

OMG, I love Ralph Lauren (although I love all short, overtanned designers like that, they are so cute), poor him, haha!

Jenny in the books (not that I ever read them ahem ahem... i was unemployed, they were in the library... in the kids/early teen section! They're not Proust exactly but they are dirty and scandalous!) was definitely awkward, chubby, with big boobs that she was kind of ashamed of and which are the reason for Chuck ever going for her at the masked ball. He's like "WOW BOOBS!" and she's like "OH MY GOD A BOY LIKES ME?!" and dramz ensues. But it's quite good.

Am I the only one on this earth to NOT think Serena is a style icon? Everyone is like OH SHE IS AMAZING! To me she is like 50% hair extensions, 20% ugly slouchy tan boots, 10% Kate Moss wannabe, 10% Sienna Miller wannabe, 5% trend anxious and 5% annoying laugh.

I agree that Blair is the coolest! Although Jenny does get a lot of cute and great dresses. But Blair has a way of looking super natural in her face and young and gorgeous but have intricate outfits and accessories.

Blair is leaps and bounds the best-dressed on the show! I don't see how that could even be a question!

I love Chuck Bass. Really.
Q: I know you are, but what am I?
A: A garbage man.

Yeah, I know! Normal people see this but tons of other trend anxious girls seem to loooove her, and all the magzines too.

He's bisexual in the books.

Edit: And he dates a guy who Dan eventually ends up hooking up with.

^ That's the kind of stuff I want to see on the show! I thought for sure when I saw the pilot episode last year that Chuck was up for some guy-on-guy action. I mean, he was wearing a friggen ascot!

Yeah everyone's a bit more sexually diverse in the books. Plus there's Vanessa's sister who is in an angy punk band and has like a shaved head. I could not BELIEVE how sweetly "latte and biscotti?" "chic" they made Vanessa in the show. Her film-making was just a narrative device for the whole chuck and blair thing anyway.

Dan sounds like he was way more interesting in the books, too. He and Serena bore the crap out of me.

And everything about her reminds me of Kate Hudson.

Yeah Serena's laugh says it ALL. It's meant to be like cute and quirky and Dan is like "I missed that laugh" and I was like "I WANT TO THROW THINGS AT HER WHEN SHE DOES THAT PHONY QUIRKY LAUGH!"

OMG baby laughs are the fucking worst. Bleurgh.

Yeah I am pretty sure (but might be wrong - I am not 100%) that the way Serena and Dan actually get to meet is through Vanessa casting them both in one of her short films. Dan i NOT ballsy as he is in the show and like, stuttering a little while he says "cool" lines does not count. Boy is meant to not have any skills at all. I always imagined the following:

Serena: Blonde and REALLY annoying. Someone you kind of hate AND love because you are friends.
Blair: The one we are meant to sympathise with (instead of the way S&D become the people who do things "right" and are like Mr and Miss Always Do The Right Thing. LOVED her so much, and it totally pained me the way Nate wouldn't sleep with her when he heard Serena arriving at the party and she realised that he'd never really love her.Serena was just the skankster who slept with him and took off, and she was so heartbroken. It was incredibly sad, and things like these kept happening to her and you jsut really felt for her. They made her more like pouty and manipulative for 90% of the show.
Dan: Thin, pale, gothy. Nerdy indie boy who is super scrawny.
Vanessa: Punky and a bit like Daria, if you remember her, haha. More like someone from Ghost World. Her sister UBER PUNK.
Jenny: Awkward, relatable, a bit chubby, not happy with her body

Etc. etc.

I started watching this show because it seems like it's one of the few shows where you can start watching in the middle-- all you really have to know is that there's lots of scheming. I haven't read the books, but I love Chuck as well, and it's extremely lame that he isn't bi in the show. (Although maybe it's just as well-- not to be a total sexuality nerd, but apparently there's a film stereotype that bisexuals are portrayed overwhelmingly negatively, and Chuck IS kind of evil.) I do think his clothes are pretty awesome, though.

Interesting about that bisexual/evil connection, I'd never thought of that.

I love it most when Chuck Bass wears a jumper with... a bass on. Awesome. Or at least a fish. But I made the bass connection automatically. In fact, let's have a Chuck Bass picture bonanza!
