Absolutely

Post by kingofpartick » Fri Jun 06, 2008 7:29 am

Has anyone else picked up the Absolutely Everything dvd box set?

This was one of my favourite shows when it was on back in the day and the recently released box is a bit of a belter. I've watched the first three from the first series so far, and have been chuckling away at Don & George, the Sensible Family, Bert Bastard, Denzil, Calumn Gilhooly and the wee girl who knows everything. The Stoneybridge Parish Council haven't appeared yet, but its only a matter of time.

£30 for 8 discs chock full of great comedy is a steal.

Fopp are doing it for £30, which is where i got it from. Its just out a couple of weeks ago, so it should still be at the new release price for a bit. Absolutely...Absolutely priceless more like.

I thought it might have dated horribly - for some reason I can only really remember the Morwenna Banks little girl sketch, but I'm sure the rest of it would come back if I were to watch it again. Hmm.

That's what got me stumped. The fella on the bog made me think of Shadwell. Wasn't he in Naked Video but also in Absolutely?

£25 on amazon just now.

It's genius. I heart Calumn Gilhooly.

"My other car's a Porsche!!!

Aaaaa-AH haha haha haha haha haha haha!
Ah haha haha haha haha haha haha!
Aah, haha haha haha haha haha haha!
Ah, haha haha haha haha haha haha!"

That's what I remember most. And Stoneybridge of course, with its famous stoney bridge. But definitely not Switzerland. I might ask my Mum for the box set for my birthday. I'll be 31; how sad is that?

Edit: Oh, I forgot "Cleanliness is next to Inverness".

Siadwell was originaly in Naked Video, although also appreared in (i think) one Absolutely sketch (as a ghost).

John Sparkes (who played Siadwell) was also (in Absolutely) Denzil the DIY guy, Bert Bastard, the tourettes-like whistling, hand-jerking fellow in a blazer, number one son in the sensible family, Frank Hovis, and one of the moustachioed stoneybridgers and several one off others.

I have to say, after all this time, my favourites are still Don And George.

No wasps!

i was watching the extras on the boxset and there is footage of John Sparkes from a televised Edinburgh Festival show, in character as the welsh bloke that always wore the blue blazer and had the twitch/stammer/shouted a lot singing the carpenter's 'close to you' to a woman in the audience. Its hysterical. The entire audience is pissing themselves and the woman is howling/mortified as he belts/twitches it out

it's your fault that i've now wasted half an hour figuring out how to play the theme tune.

its a great theme tune. there was a different version of it for every episode of the first series. Then they realised that was a pain in the arse so they settled for proper titles for the second.

Dangerous times! Just discovered at quarter to midnight on a Sunday evening that the complete run (I'm presuming) of Absolutely is on Virgin TV XL (or whatever it's called)

Did a proper wow when I saw this:

No idea if it'll be any good - is Frank Hovis really on the lavatory if you can't see him?
