Porky Prime Cuts

I've always had a fascination with the writing on the run-out grooves of vinyl records. I think this is the main reason I'm so short-sighted - all that squinting and head-turning to get the light to shine on the grooves "just so". It seems to be a phenomenon confined to British independently-release...

Re: Things I am listening to now then

I've had a "theme morning", where I've played nothing but Porky Prime Cuts. Standouts were Twa Toots - Peel Sessions, The Fall - Liedream of a Casino Soul, The Farmer's Boys - More Than a Dream.

Re: Southampton. Famous for...

It wasn't only the supports' friends who disappeared - it was the bands themselves as well, which I thought was pretty disgraceful. Shouldn't they be sticking around to see the main band? It wasn't like they were all in the bar together after their set - I saw two of them driving off in their cars a...

Re: Things I am listening to now then

some new Sarandon songs! (exciting stuff). Excellent news! Look forward to hearing them! I'm loving the Notes' EP from Bandcamp, and The Maladies of Bellafontaine's new 7" Black Biro/Long Socks - on burgundy vinyl too (coloured vinyl always makes a record sound at least 10-15% better). The singer s...

Re: Southampton. Famous for...

I've listened to The Notes on Last fm, Soundcloud and Bandcamp. I have to say that Dancing Shoes is absolutely brilliant. It's like something Peel would have played to death circa 1981. The Cramps-y guitar and deadpan vocals are right up my street. Love it!

Re: last.fm

There is very little benefit to subscribing over non-subscribing. I use the Playlist function a lot (playlists can only be played by subscribers), however, I seem to be in a very small minority there. Oh, and "Loved Tracks Radio" can only be played by subscribers. I use that function from time to ti...

Not that I'm competitive or anything, but we need another 26 posts to overtake the Leicester thread and move into 7th spot in what could be considered to be the "Most Indiepoppest City in Britain" competition (based solely on thread replies on this board). Thus, any new posters are more than welcome...

Re: In-Tape Records

Ooh, thank you! I completely forgot about Discogs! It's not quite complete - The Bumper Book Of Yeah Yeah Noh was IT 011, but as far as I know, the rest of it could well be all there was. Looking through the list, I seem to have 26 already, so I've got off to a cracking start. On the downside, I wou...

In-Tape Records

I had this foolish idea that I'd like to collect everything on the In-Tape Records label. I mean, I have a large number of much-loved vinyls already by the likes of Marc Riley with the Creepers, Yeah Yeah Noh, Terry & Gerry, The June Brides, Rote Kapelle, etc, so why not? How hard can it be? The onl...

Re: Southampton. Famous for...

And a big Anorakky welcome from me too! I've attached a link to the photo which appears on the inside of the Best Coast gatefold CD (sorry it's from my blog, but I haven't worked out how to attach an image from the C-drive of this computer yet): The pic is featured on this page. My suspicion is that...

Re: Southampton. Famous for...

I was torn between getting the vinyl version and the CD version. It was the three-track freebie from Rough Trade which swung it the CD's way.

Let us know if the photo from the Joiners is on the inner sleeve of the vinyl version!

By coincidence, "Get The Buzz" was an album by The Green Hornets! One of the Pompey garage bands you refer to (now The Good Time Charlies). You should go down well in Pompey.

Re: Southampton. Famous for...

That's about it I reckon Andy. Southampton has been rubbish for record shops for sometime. ...and will be forever more now, I expect. As much as I appreciate mail-order, there's nothing like a good old browse amongst the racks. I did buy a CD copy of Wild Summer Wow for 99p in Oxfam the other day. ...

Re: Southampton. Famous for...

Sad to see that Weasel's shut down a month or so ago. I'm missing my regular trips there. How many second-hand record shops are there left in Southampton now? Are there any I don't know about, hidden away in a back alley somewhere?

The ones I know are Oxfam and Boo Hoo and...er, that's it.

It's Tony Adams' Desert Island Discs, everyone! That's funny...I've been at one of those hotels that specialise in renting out training rooms for companies for the past couple of days. There has evidently been an FA coaching course going on there, as I've seen Tony Adams, Ray Clemence, Peter Taylor...

sorry, this is totally not a sticker-related post, and at the risk of sounding like a massive ponce (hoho! see what i did there?), assuming you are speaking about the chilean player then it is indeed pon-say. in spanish, if there is no obvious accent to suggest otherwise, the accent is on the penul...

Re: Panini Football Sticker Swapsies. Anyone?

Oh, and my next project is to go through the entire sticker album and match up each player's birth date with Peel session broadcasts taken from the Ken Garner Peel Sessions book, eg, did you know that Matthew Upson was born the same day that an Ivor Cutler session was broadcast? Or that Emile Heskey...
