That clashes with Bearsuit at the Railway!

I guess you might persuade more people to come out on a Friday...end of the working week and all that. I hope so, anyway.

Re: 'The Sun Shines Here' Southampton Wednesday 2nd Feb

Another great set-list Rich! A little birdie told me that The Notes might be playing The Joiners in the coming month, supporting one of the BBC's hot tips for 2011, so there should be a fair-sized crowd there. Might be worth taking a few leaflets? Not sure if that's confirmed yet though...I can't re...

Re: 'The Sun Shines Here' Southampton Wednesday 2nd Feb

I'll be there after 8 o'clock. I've saved up plenty of beer money this month. Looking forward to an evening of top tunes!

Re: 'The Sun Shines Here' Southampton Wednesday 5th January

There wasn't a bad tune all evening - how often can you say that on a night out?

As for my bus - I caught the number 8 a couple of minutes after we went our separate ways - home in time to watch the end of the football on the telly!

See you all again next month, hopefully.

Thanks Rich! Most enjoyable! It's just great to hear some of my favourite tunes played LOUD!

And a big thanks to Sam and Aaron for the free gifts! And the peanuts!

Re: The shred your cred thread

The Drums are fine. I don't understand why they're supposed to be uncool at all. Is it because they're an NME band? As for the Cardiacs from earlier in the thread - they were the Muse of their day, weren't they? If you like one, you'd probably like the other. My own cred-shred...I'm going to see Jus...

Re: Porky Prime Cuts

Yep, after the initial enthusiasm for making this list waned (this would be about thirty minutes into the "A" section of the 12" and LP section - finger out record from pile, pull out inner-sleeve, hold record up to weak light, squint at run-out groove for thousandth time...), I did eventually concl...

Re: The Notes

Wishing Well is an excellent set of songs. I was intending to write a bit about them and made a few notes in my scribble-book. Here's a random selection of quotes from my so-far non-existent review: "...drum machine set to Shop Assistants mode..." "...if Bubblegum Splash had done soaring..." "...mag...

Re: Southampton. Famous for...

Maybe I was being a bit harsh on the Soul Cellar's beer selection - I'm sure I'll find a bottle of something refreshing on the evening! At least the musical selection won't be bettered anywhere else. And The Bieber? I know, I know! I took my son to the FA Cup Final last year (when both children want...

Re: Southampton. Famous for...

Good work Rich! It's a pity they don't serve a decent pint at the Soul Cellar, but I suppose that will stop me drinking quite so much on a work night. Other commitments notwithstanding, I'll be there. Since I last posted on this thread...no, I didn't see the Vaccines. To be honest, I had to look the...

Re: 'Monday Social' Southampton Monday 1st November

Thanks for doing this Rich. I had a fine old time! The deejay choices were top-notch.

Looking at the calendar for next month, I seem to have a child's carol service already lined up for 6th December, so I should be at Goblets, but maybe only for the final hour or so.

I should be able to come. Are you taking requests? If so, I'd like to hear Betty & the Werewolves' Should I Go To Glasgow? cranked up to 11 at some point during the evening!

Re: UK Indiepop Dark Ages

The UK independent pop scene circa 1991-1996, you say? Pre-internet, where could you hear this stuff outside the big population centres? Only the radio, and Peel was playing techno, jungle, d 'n' b, grunge - very little so-called indiepop; the Evening Session had been vacated by Janice Long and had ...

That would be Damont Audio of Blyth Road, Hayes in London then. Record and CD manufacturers. Possibly where Porky worked, at least for some of the time.

Re: Porky Prime Cuts

That was interesting! A1, B2, C2...now we know! It may help to explain why at least three records in the list that I linked to in the original thread are not Porky Prime Cuts on the versions that I have**. Anyway, I'm not advocating that everyone goes off and rummages through their record collection...

Re: 'short-lived' indie record labels of yore

That's a coincidence - I just started a thread on Porky Prime Cuts. The next thing I see is this...I get the record out, and yes, it's a Porky Prime Cut! I know of no other records on this label other than those already mentioned. Porky scratched "Jesus loves you...but everyone else thinks you're a ...
