Re: makeup and cosmetics
coloured mascara, anyone? I'm dark--olive (or something) but quite pale in the winter. dark, dark hair. lately the idea of coloured mascara (particularly red) appeals to me. please dissuade me if you think I'm becoming a teeny-bopper, teeny-goth, returning to the nineties, or some other such undesir...

Contemporary Poetry Resources
I have noticed that in the "poems we like" thread, most people are posting works by poets who aren't writing anymore. What about poets who are writing, right now? I have a difficult time keeping up with contemporary poetry, but I am interested in immersing myself in it more. Might you be able to sug...

Re: poems we like
i'd never really read hardy's poetry before... and now i definitely will! that's so lovely, marianthi! here's a kerazee poem for cat lovers, written by christopher smart in 1750-whatsit. apparently smart was confined to asylums for much of his life... for excessive prayer on street corners (at leas...

Re: philosophical tomes
like, frankfurt school of critical theory? if so, that's awesome, because i love them too! i finished erich fromm's the art of love last year, and i'm looking to start theodor adorno's aesthetic theory when i can afford it (sigh, philosophy books are expensive). the graduate school i'm looking to g...

Re: Swimming
Believe it or not (it's maybe more unexpected if you really know me), I used to play water polo. While I liked the game, I found the length swimming just as fulfilling. It's very meditative. I think the hot shower afterward adds to this mental and physical cleansing experience.

Re: It's bloody dangerous by bicycle
Do you ever take your bike on the bus or boat? I recently went to Anacortes to see Parenthetical Grrrls. We rode our bikes to the bus, then the ferry, and then rode from the ferry terminal to town. It was a nice ride, albeit a bit difficult seeing as my 5-gear bike has only 1 functioning gear at the...

Re: A Phil Elverum (Mt Eerie/Microphones) thread
<3 Phil Elverum so much.
Also, there were months after its release when I couldn't stop listening to that "Whatcha Doin'" song Tomlab released on the David Shrigley's Worried Noodles comp. Phil and Nick Krgovich was a little more than I could handle.

Yeah! Second that. I think my station charted Old Man Luedecke at #1 recently. And I am totally digging Adam & the Amethysts.

Re: But seriously, Canadians.
Laura Peek and the Winning Hearts . Not my cup of tea, but she's a doll. Joel Plaskett has some radio (and Zellers) friendly poppy stuff, plus he's a local hero of sorts. The whole Just Friends label would probably appeal to indiepoppers. In regards to Joel Plaskett, I totally ordered one of the la...

i haven't heard from david in *ages* but last we spoke he was studying oceanography or something crazy down in the states... not sure what he's working on musically these days, but i'm sure it's something fun... David is studying oceanography in San Diego. He's playing with a new band called Endles...

Home Remedies
I'm not sure that this is a hobby exactly, but it's an area in which I have an interest at least. I recently went to the public library and found a book called So Beautiful: My Grandmother's natural beauty creams, lotions and remedies . It's got things like "To cure baldness, rub the head night and ...

Thank god. I am missing the Blow when she plays here due to an early morning exam the next day. I was pretty disappointed when I found out. But now I get to see her anyway! AND Katy Davidson! I miss Dear Nora...caramarydaisy wrote:just added to the line up:

Re: What the Heck Fest
Yaaaayyyy!
If you're in the San Juans you should go to that bakery that does all lavender baking at Friday Harbour. I have only heard of it but it sounds positively dreamy.
I am excited. It's my only summer festival too.
