Probably not, because then it really would be proper grim rather than just Swedish grim which is the equivalent of "quite pleasant, actually" in Britain.

Re: chart pop / RnB

Even though Alphabeat liked it enough to name a song after it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FFpfF2AZzY ? Or at least I assume they did, anyway. They always like to claim their song Boyfriend was inspired by Show Me Love.

Re: chart pop / RnB

I've thought of investigating Robyn a bit more in the past but will definitely be doing so soon then. I like that it's the same Robyn whose perfume makes an appearance in Show Me Love/Fucking Amal as well. Aye, the English release of Fucking Amal was renamed after Robyn's Max Martin produced 90s hi...

Re: chart pop / RnB

Any recommendations on great pop songs that I've probably missed out on this year. The only thing I've bought recently was that Diana Vickers song that I only know because she played it on the x factor. Urgh....X-Factor, something that really should get done for crimes against pop!!! Anyone that ma...

Re: chart pop / RnB

I recently discovered and am currently in love with the original version of Ambitions by Donkeyboy. I must admit I that I only heard it off the back of Joe McElderry version but it's a fantastic pop song. Bless him, but Joe just doesn't seem to grasp any of the melancholy in the song at all and just...

It just seems like they're trying to create their own version of the infinite monkey theorem: get enough people to write 50,000 word novels in 30 days and someone is bound to come up with something at least half decent. Still, it has solved a mystery for me. Working in public libraries I always wond...

Janelle Monae is awe-inspiringly talented. Forget Lady Gaga*, she is the future of pop music.

*Still love Lady Gaga too, mind.

Re: Curry!

As unhealthy Glaswegian children we used to go to a very grim Chinese takeaway called "Evelyn's" at lunch times and buy fried rice covered in that generic brown curry sauce (heart disease in Scotland explained) and to this day I find myself gravitating towards it every time I order in a Japanese res...

Re: Belle and Sebastian

I think it's better than the last album and possibly the one before that as well. There's some bad songs on there and some dull songs but some great tunes as well. I think any other band producing some of this stuff would be highly praised round here. I agree that Norah Jones is suited for that son...

Re: Baking (cakes and stuff)

I read that you can remove the sticky film from silicone baking tins by scrubbing it with baking soda. It seems to work on mine, anyway. And yes, it's worth buying a silicone baking tins if you don't want the moment of suspense as you wonder if your beautiful cake is going to make it out of the tin ...

Re: Camera Obscura

I don't know if it's just the Tracyanne Campbell factor making me say this but that was great! And the EP has a pretty swoon-worthy list of indie pop girl (and Darren Hayman) guests. Want. And I agree, despite the fact there's a slight C Is The Heavenly Option vibe to the song, he's mainly channelin...

Does anyone else find themselves, quite against their personal will, compelled to come up with stupid ideas for products when watching The Apprentice? I spent all of last night's episode, and quite depressingly, most of today, trying to come up with my own new holiday essential, and feeling slightl...

Re: Belle and Sebastian

That is a lovely picture. When I saw it I assumed the competition was asking people to send pictures of themselves looking like Belle and Sebastian album cover girls. Though in hindsight there isn't nearly enough sepia tinting on that picture for it to be a convincing Belle and Sebastian cover.

Is that Kate Nash with him? They appear to have His 'n' Hers haircuts now. The fringe says Friar Tuck, the clothes say NME circa 2002. Maybe it's monk chic.

Re: help release a new Tullycraft tribute comp!

I used to think I didn't like Tullycraft - or rather my perception of what Tullycraft were like based on very little evidence (I'd heard 'Pop Songs...' and found it a bit irritating) - but after eventually listening to their albums this year, I have been shame-facedly reevaluating my prejudices and ...

I'm daring to get excited about Wild Flag too. I liked reading that Janet Weiss interview because it's really cool to hear that she and Carrie are so energised and excited to be making music together again. For all that I loved Sleater-Kinney and don't think that they made a bad album, I felt like a...

Eeee! All of that sounds really exciting. A The Middle Ones gig in the park would be the perfect way to start the summer. Those new posters are absolutely lovely too. Is that little sailor character modeled on Sophie from Lock Up Your Daughters? It looks a lot like her in the sailor costume she was ...
