Popfest New England Announcement

Hey, folks, We're sad to say that we will not be doing a Popfest this year. We thank everyone who came last year and we look forward to 2010. 'Tis tough times, but we count our blessings and things are looking brighter every day. The other reason not in the announcement is that our two trusty Volvo ...

Re: Fish

The foil method is definitely a winner. It's also good to throw on the grill. I've been wondering though, what is the safest and also the best kinds of fish to eat that don't destroy the environment? People say eat wild salmon because it supports fisherman, but wild fish has a lot more mercury in it...

Re: A Thread for Beans

I made a giant crock pot full of black beans last weekend. They did taste kinda bland without the ham hock or insert gross piece of meat here. I eat chicken and occasional red meat, but I wanted to go without it. How do they make them so good in the Mexican places? I think it's the matriarchs who ha...

What is everyone's new favorite music these days?

Veggie Haggis? Wow.

Has anyone ever made chickpea fritters before? It's a specialty in Palermo, Italy. I think I may try this today. Here is one recipe: http://www.jamieoliver.com/bloggers/vie ... p?id=35703

Re: New England Popfest 2008! November 7 - November 9

Thanks to everyone for coming to Popfest! It was a really great time, we miss everyone. I'm composing my blog and getting all of my pix in order. Our flickr is here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/skippingstonesrecords . Most of my pictures suck and I forgot my camera Friday & Saturday. I'm relying on...

Re: crowd pleasers!

I'm glad you say that. I think fake meat is stupid, too.

Pasta has been on sale and I've stocked up, so I'm going to make a shitload of pasta. I made a tomato sauce last weekend and I'm going to make a meat version, too, with spicy chicken sausage and ground turkey.

Should be fun!!!

Re: the (?) owls

This is a perfect on-your-way-to-work record, too. It is, isn't it? It puts me in a really good mood in the morning. The first one, Our Hopes and Dreams, does the same thing. On-your-way-to-work music should have its own thread! But I'll reply here. When I have the iPod on shuffle and I'm almost to...

crowd pleasers!

I love cooking for parties! I usually go overboard and plan a billion things to make and then I only make a portion of what I planned. :) We're having some people over on the Saturday of Popfest New England weekend - familiars are welcome and I'm sure I'll meet anorak folks to invite. Last year we h...

Re: the (?) owls

I just purchased their album in the last few months and it's one of my recent favorites. The singing and harmonies are just lovely and the whole album just glides through. It's over too soon! The Peppermint Patty song is really cute and I like "welcome to monday" too. This is a perfect on-your-way-t...

Re: what are you cooking for dinner tonight, recipe and all?

Having friends over for dinner and some music-making. I bought a jar of Mexican mole sauce which is really yummy. I'm going to use it with some chicken, then decided to make a simply marinade. It's chocolate night! I made a no-bake vegan pie with tofu, chocolate and peanut butter, then used the cuis...

Re: Cookbooks

All of these books sound so delish! My standard is Joy of Cooking, a good reference book. I usually get recipes off the internet. The Ottolenghi Cookbook sounds really fab, too. I have a ton of cookbooks and also some really tacky appetizer books from the 1950s and books from my mom and william's mo...

Re: New England Popfest 2008! November 7 - November 9

We asked them, but in the meantime while they were checking their schedule, the 3 spots that we had open filled up! Specific Heats and Lil Hospital are playing Friday night and The Toothaches switched from Saturday (which was already full) to Sunday. If a band breaks up (ha ha) or can't make it, we ...

Re: Baking (cakes and stuff)

Safe return! Baking and alcohol mix quite nicely, actually. I've made a devastating discovery. Everything seemed to be taking forever in the oven so I bought an oven thermometer. I wanted to make a vegan "decadent almond cake" last night. I preheated the oven to 350 and when it beeped to say it was ...

Re: cupcakes!

Any good sites for vegan cupcake recipes? I'm allergic to dairy, so I cook vegan every now and then.

My icing was too hot when I put it on the cupcakes and it melted all over the place, big-time. It was fun, even though I made it from a box!
