Re: anorak loves new york

I might as well live there now that all the best bands aside from the Smittens refuse to travel further north/east than NY. (bitter) In essence, I'm there several times a year--even though my beloved cuppie has left. If Yubo and Paba leave, I'm going to have to start campaigning for Boston venues t...

Re: The documentary film

the book's fucking amazing. it should probably be instilled directly into schoolchildren's brains. it kind of has the effect of negatively corroborating all the claims of the bush triumvirate that 'casualty figures obscure the real picture about war', and stuff, in that it makes you see beyond the m...

Re: It's the Large Hadron Collider Thread, yo!

ha!, i was just about to go digging around the guardian site to look for that explanation; i think i maybe preferred the other one, because treacle seems an apposite analogy for something that changess everything that passes through it. did you strategically change it to ex-pm ?, or is it from somew...

Re: It's the Large Hadron Collider Thread, yo!

i wrote a pretty good post, but it disappeared. it toasted the rolling out of bbc flagship marr, and probed deeply into the last minute 'workaround' they'd found to combat the electrical hitch. it also speculated on the bbc front page image, and how it looked like one of those string-section-scored ...

Re: It's the Large Hadron Collider Thread, yo!

ooh. i am listening live on crackly radio four, with andrew marr. champagne corks are being popped, i think because they've managed to shoot the, uh, hadrons, a few km into the, uhhh, collider tunnel. i am on a train, and am looking over the countryside: the world is still intact, and the sky is mai...

yeah. you should watch all those. and you should stop watching superman. just put spider-man one on whenever you're in the mood for wondering what it'd be like to get superpowers.

Re: Veg*n & Vegetari*n (No Fish Please)

i don't know if it's quite the same statistic, but i heard that methane outranks transport as a contributor, which seemed pretty wild. as someone who went vegetarian because animals are mangy, it's a nice added incidental eco-righteousness-bonus.

Re: Radio 2

Armando Iannucci's back, though, which is nice.
i listened to whatever his show's called, a couple of weeks ago, and it was probably the funniest thing i've ever heard on the radio. there was a pretty good adam buxton thing, too. but the armando thing's terrific.

Re: Mad Men

january jones sounds like the kind of thing they'd use in place of cuss words. january jones , batman! i think it's sort of fifty fifty with it being forced, in that some of it is obviously too centralised, made ironic by the passage of time, and it isn't/wasn't (i'm on series two, and it's really m...

Re: Radio 2

you do sound a little bit ambivalent about everything on it.

dylan's theme time radio's radio two, right? that's pretty great.
i think this should maybe be a radio two versus radio four thread. even though they're different. radio four would whup radio two's ass with a belt.

Re: Mad Men

it is getting pretty good. i still think it has some problems; the sort of historical, representative veneer kind of limits the emotional capacity of some of the characters (like the women, who only operate in binary docile/over-emotional modes). but that's changing. peggy's BRILLIANT, and i like th...

ah, terrific: i'd totally love a copy. i'm kind of busy but will e-mail you my address at some point. the alternative is chucking them into a zip file or something, and uploading it to megaupload.com, which is pretty easy. i'm keen to hear day ; i only saw him play whaleheart stuff once, and that wa...

Re: Sweet Smog Music

He (the husband) had to do a mix cd for the tourbus and naturally Bill has the say about whether a song stays on or not. Only remit - no indie, no rock. Must've been tricky but then I have got a radio session from around the Whaleheart time and he said he only listened to piano concertos so who kno...

Just found this in my email box from the WIld Love list thing is there any activity on that? like, am i missing out on setlists or geeky smog observations like the above? i could do with more smog in my life. he's quiet when he isn't releasing records and touring. i should sign up for spectator smo...
