Re: The Deirdres!

oh and what fun it was to find out that several male bowlies had received kisses from female Deirdres on saturday!! Jangly Mark got quite hot under the collar when he found out. It was all very chaste, though. FFS, where was I at that time?! Probably in the kebab shop across the road negotiating wi...

Re: The Deirdres!

I have their melodica. I tried to explain to a couple of people what they were like, only to meet with the obstacle that by any conventional standards of explanation one would have to conclude, without having seen them, that they were shit. Except, for reasons that I cannot explain, they are not shi...

Sadly, out of Sheffield and back on the way home to Swansea long before that. Was hoping to catch up with a couple of old friends from here who live there (and who I haven't seen a while).

Hey, remember me?

Going to be passing through Sheffield this Sunday afternoon. Anyone (who's not out of town on the Atomic Beat roadshow) fancy meeting for lunch or a cuppa?

I love that one, but I love the St. Vincent album more with every successive listen.

I reckon "What Me Worry" is a lovely, lovely song. The whole album's worth it for that.

London 0, Hull 4 - great record. Who would have thought the Housemartins would later give us Fat Boy Slim and the Beautiful South?

For me, it's Robyn Hitchcock's Eye, actually. I bought it a long, long time ago, back in about 1991, 1992 maybe.

I think you'll find those decisions are entirely up to me and I make them on Thursday mornings. I regret to inform you that I cannot consider any late submissions. . Sounds good to me I find this thread stupidly fascinating I couldnt care less about putting music into catergories beyond that I enjo...

True, but it'd be nice to have a definition for the site, though, so those of us who are less conversant with the genre know where to put our threads.

I dunno what oompa means but the Pipettes are like an indie Bananarama. And Bananarama were a great pop band. Therefore, the Pipettes are indiepop. And it is music such as the Pipettes' that distinguishes indiepop from just plain old indie. It's a fairly superficial distinction between the Pipettes...

Wouldn't we all? It could be worse, mind. They could want to talk about Linkin Park.

That's your opinion, yes. I don't really like the term 'indie pop'. There's 'pop' and there's 'not pop' to me. Pipettes bore the milk out of me, therefore I don't find them 'pop'. I can't see anything in them that's bright or gleaming. But that's just another opinion. But presumably you wouldn't ob...

BBC4 has produced some excellent music documentaries: erudite and witty, whereas the norm for music programming elsewhere (let's say Channel 4) is to have some shouty haircut being all 'happening' and introducing the kaiser chiefs like they're somehow deeply significant and of great import in front...

The Pipettes don't count for me. I think they're shite. Well, there you and I pretty much agree. But then, do they count for other people here? If not, why not? Does the term "Indiepop" refer to "music we like"? Apropos to nothing, really, I have a mate who says that he hates country music. It's ki...

I've got no doubt he isn't in it for the cred. He is signed to a major label subsidiary and it seems to me, as an outsider looking in, that they're really trying to big him up. Totally. I got the impression, though, that he doesn't really care half as much as some people do about it. You know, he's...

You know, I haven't heard a single one of those definitive records they list.

What's Indiepop?

No, seriously. I'm sure this question's been asked before, but I've not been on this internet much, and although my friends consider my musical knowledge to be second to none, I'm actually cluless compared to most of you anoraks. So, could you people define indiepop for me, at least in the terms rec...
