Re: Comic Book Chit-chat

Waaaaait, they're not father and son :(

Jeffrey is from Michigan, Chester is Canadian. Besides, Chester is only 15 years older than Jeffrey.

Now I feel stoopid.

Re: Comic Book Chit-chat

I'm getting into a comic book mood again, after a bit of a break. Just bought the big hard back of From Hell , which is daunting and totally grim. Which is good. Also, just ploughed my way through issues 1-36 of The Walking Dead , which is a very effective, increasingly involving zombie apocalypse e...

Re: Love & Rockets

Damn, that's making all my bits salivate. Cannae wait.

That portrait's from "The Education of Hopey Glass", I think. I took it into my life drawing class as one of the examples of artists I admire for their figure drawing. I wish I could do that kind of minimal line-drawing.

Re: Brighton

Edgeworld is one of White Hotel's (from Planbmag - I'm assuming you're the same Boney!) favourite record shops. Also, craigboney - the woman and I spent a good portion of time and money at the Brighton and Hove Food Festival on New Road (next to Pavilion Gardens, near the new library) today. It's on...

Re: Talking at gigs

The last gig I went to where people were talking really obnoxiously was pretty cringe-making. It was Gowns at the Greenhouse in Brighton, a tiny basement venue. Gowns started their set, and a song and a half in, the sound cut out. The sound people fixed it (eventually) and they started again. Then t...

Re: Brighton

Yeah, if you're looking for vinyl, craigboney, check out Edgeworld - it's on the same street as Resident, on the opposite side, kind of opposite "Get Cutie".

You have to go into another shop and up some stairs to get there - loads of great vinyl.

Talking at gigs

How do you deal with it? Ignore, censure, or torture?

Re: Manda Rin update

The main problem with bis was the fact that nno-one outside Glasgow could pronounce their name. (well, that & their 2nd album!) I was really into Bis when I was younger, and they still hold a place in the Nostaligic Ventricle of my heart. But I wasn't aware that there was any special way to pronoun...

Re: The Fence Collective

Bobby Who?, obviously everyone has their own tastes, but I really enjoyed Rozi Plain's set, and I thought The Pictish Trail's better songs were great, and that all of it was interesting to listen to. I like his singing voice, I like his lyrics... don't know what to say really. It seemed like most pe...

Re: MP3 Players

My girlfriend has one of those Creative Zen Stone things - she likes it, because she mostly uses it for listening to music while travelling. I've taken it out running because it's lighter than my iPod, and while the interface is pretty cumbersome, everything else about it is pretty great.

Re: MP3 Players

Dunno about iPods these days - I think they're generally around £150.00 for the 20GB ones. A quick browse through Amazon should fill you in. I decided against the expense, delicacy and iTunes faff of iPods this time and went for this: Sony NWZA816B 4GB walkman mp3 player. It's not the prettiest thin...

Re: I LOVE Magazines

Always think The Believer (McSweeneys produced monthly magazine) looks like a good read, but can't bring myself to spend £8.00 on it. Strange Attractor is good fun, but it's more of a journal, and it's very infrequent. Amazing value, though, considering what a tome it is, and introduced me to all ki...

Re: Brighton

That's really interesting - thanks man! It's nice to get the perspective of someone who's been here for the long haul (a rarity, I think). I'm not totally down on the place, as I said, but it's obvious that something needs to change. As a guy said to me last night, "Brighton needs a kick up the arse...

Re: The Fence Collective

I am indeed a man. Got chest hair and everything. Thanks for the offer of mp3s, but I don't mind waiting for the album - less than a month away isn't too long to wait. I don't have much opportunity to listen to music at the moment anyway, as my iPod is kaput, and I'm waiting for my new Sony mp3 play...

Re: The Fence Collective

It's annoying. They had the Rozi Plain album at the gig, but I didn't get it because I didn't have any money on me and I thought I would get it online. Turns out it's not out til October, so I've pre-ordered it, and I'll just have to bloody wait til then, g'dammit. She looks alarmingly like my frien...

Re: The Fence Collective

Just got back from seeing The Pictish Trail and Rozi Plains play above a pub in Brighton. Lovely gig - good, cheerful atmosphere, lots of banter and respectful whooping and clapping. Nice venue too, run by nice people it seems (any friend of Fence Records, etc). The Pictish Trail was his usual great...
