Girl One and the Grease Guns

Post by Outcognito » Fri Feb 15, 2013 01:17

Girl One and the Grease Guns have a debut 7" released by Squirrel Records next month. On this release, Sissy Space Echo and various collaborators lurking in the shadows, take their cues from The Normal's minimalist electronic pop and Cabaret Voltaire's twisted experimental studio sounds. The two tracks on the 7" are the cavernous echo-pop 'Driving Without Headlights (Once Again)' and the skewed sounds of '(I'm A) Willing Receiver'. The 7" is available for pre-order from Squirrel here:-

That did seem to be the case towards the end of last year (and is still be a possibility, I suppose) but in the meantime, Squirrel are trying to keep going for as long as possible. The post dated 25th November 2012 in this link explains the situation:-

this record sounds super-good! wish the audio on the website was of the full versions.

the sleeve, though... hmmmm. i get that the picture's in homage to the normal 7", and glued-on text is diy and all, but comic sans? ugh.

Oh yes, that bold comic lettering is from an early mock up design, trying to contrast the cold looking image. It's a little different on the final sleeve!

If that was one and half minutes shorter and got in and out after the two verses it would be the best song I've heard in a long time. Still great mind. It's like the JAMC and MLS made a record together in Depeche Mode's studio.

Yay! Liked the first single immensely - I think I posted it in the 'things I'm listening to'' thread or summit.

Will definitely pick up a copy of the new single - from what I've heard of it, it sounds really good.

Bring On The Dancing Horse Meat is the flip side to Jessica 6.

A brand new two track 7", '(Here Come The) Catastrophe Machines'/'Hitting The Brick Wall' will be available to pre-order from Squirrel Records at the end of this week, with the expected release date being November 11th.

I'd better put a proviso that the video for '(Here Come The) Catastrophe Machines' is not recommended for anyone sensitive to fast moving images. It also contains some gory footage! Here goes:-
