i knew you'd like them, christos.

funnily enough, given that they're now hotly tipped and all that, i bought their 7" this time last year in melbourne -- it was au$2, and the shop had at least one box full on the counter, so it was not exactly a total shock when my question as to whether, based on what i was buying, there were other local releases i should be getting too was answered with 'oh, you'd probably like pop singles'.

i assumed it was an unsellable new release, but it turns out it was 18 months old at the time, so perhaps one of the last boxes, marked down to shift them. bet their records don't sit on the shelves so long anymore. anyway, the 7" is decent but pales in comparison with the album.

yes, i have the lp -- bought it direct from the band, think it was au$35 (~£23) including shipping. expensive, but other than x-mist i don't think anywhere in europe sells it. nice packaging -- great artwork, and it even has that funny kind of rounded plastic inner sleeve i've only ever seen on australian releases from the 80s. i like to think that was deliberate attention to detail.

there's also a considerably cheaper tape version on night people with different artwork.

Really liking Pop Singles. I went for the cheaper cassette version as X-mist seemed to be OOS on the 12".

Man, I was looking at ordering this the other day. Need to start mugging people. Really, really rich people who carry large amounts of cash.
I am struck speechless by the nape of your neck.

I am absolutely in love with Allah-Las!!!! My friend, from The Boys who Could't Stop Dreaming (they djed at indietracks 2011), couldn't stop raving about this band. Now I can see why... Their new album is album of the year for me (along with the Garlands' one).

Some people can effortlessly write the most wonderful tunes!!!
I slice the surface here beside you/Lungs filled liquid yell I love you/Sound moves further underwater
Deep and dark my submarine bells groan in greens and grey/Mine would chime a thousand times/To make you feel okay..

Has nobody mentioned Mowbird yet? Mowbird, then. Scuzzy lo-fi garage from Wrexham with Nuggets, surf and K Records overtones.

Meursault. Not new, but new to me. They're one of those bands I've wanted to listen to for ages but never got around to until now, and I'm smitten.

I love this video. You simply can't beat a man with a powerful voice, a plaintively-strummed ukulele and a fuckload of swans.

Also, the newish album (Something for the Weakened) is just lovely.

Not sold on the band name, but these have 2 nice singles. Got an odd looped vibe to it, lovely calm C86y production. Dig the shit out of the drums on 'nowhere'.

I'm loving King Alfred, Man Of Leisure right now:

http://riotsnotdiets.bandcamp.com/album/hate-mail

They've been going a few years but I haven't listened to more than one track before. Got the cassette with free d/l at last week's gig. 24 minutes long or thereabouts, the perfect length for an album; every moment is interesting.

I wouldn't want to categorise it too much but it made me think of Country Teasers, the Messthetics comps and maybe some of Alternative TV 's stuff. It says one of them used to be in (The?) Groundhogs but I can't see any reference to that anywhere else.

There's a new Sheffield band called Summer of Blood. They sound less metal than their name:

That's lovely, that is. I also quite like the name, even if it is a bit misleading!

I really like this two-track thing from Autumns. Soft Power are on such a roll at the moment what with Big Wave, Beat Mark, Spook School, September Girls, etc...
