That's a bold statement. I love the Pentangle version.

I think the Pentangle version's my favourite too...though Tim Buckley's version does have a certain sleazy charm about it.

joe hisaishi - music from the the films of takeshi kitano

the excerpt I'm listening to now is from the scene on the beach in 'sonatine' where the gangsters are playing the surreal sumo game and shooting fireworks at one another

'sonatine' is one of my favourite films and the music is integral to that

this also has the gorgeous happy sad music from 'kikujiro' on it

I think hisaishi does music for the studio ghibli movies too

the muppets performing papa oom mow mow

it's kind of great until you realise it's some seesion musicians and singers and not real muppets and then the magic kind of dies

but now I'm listening to the vibes 'I'm in pittsburgh (and it's raining)'

which is ace!

I'm right this instant listening to I Am The President Of Your Fanclub (And Last Night I Followed You Home) by Cancel The Astronauts (blimey, I'm worn out just from typing that) - thank you, Indie MP3! Anyway, it's only the second time I've heard it and it's superb. I don't think I'm going to be getting sick of that any time soon.

The Prisoners - Love Changes

My first new Prisoners song since the random Shine On EP however many years ago (about 15, ahem), thanks to the joy of US releases I didn't know about. God bless you, Pink Dust records.

It most fucking certainly does not disappoint.

Shocking Blue - Send me a postcard

If I hadn't known what Mariska Veres looked like when she got older, I would be eternally in love with this woman.
And while I was typing that the song has changed to:

Q65 - I despise you

She looks just like when she sings live too. Heh.
I quite liked them that one time I saw them play. They have a perfectly shimmery live sound.
Even if they're not Cars Can Be Blue.

I'm listening to a lovely Tullycraft song I'd not heard before on a pretty 7" with fantastic DIY packaging, Look How We Killed The Riot Grrrls, thanks to that squirrelboutique (again).
the trouble with personalities, they're too wrapped up in style
it's too personal; they're in love with their own guile

fikret kizilok 'colours'

this has absolutely floored me, it's a turkish (but sung in english) cover of 'colours' by donovan from 1960-something

it helps that it's not donovan singing but it's the guitar playing (strumming) which is simple but entirely fucking transcendent, some occasional blasts of flute and harmonica and the sound of the original vinyl add to the mix

I haven't been quite so devestated by something since hearing washington phillips and his fretless zither

this is off a compilation called 'go larda' that you'll find freely downloadable around the internet

beauty's in the ear of the beholder so I don't make any great claims for this track other than how it's made me feel

I'm listening to the new Jens Lekman record.
I'm confused.
Some of the songs are lovely and others I have to skip because they're completely naff.
What are you doing Jens!
It Was a Strange Time In My Life is on now though and it's rather pretty.
I don't know quite what to make of it all.
Does it get better after more listens?
I do hope so.
