Demented Scumcats - Splatter Baby

As awesomely, unexpectedly swirlingly farfisaly, growlingly and scaringly garagepsychobilly-ly fantastic as you would expect from a band fronted by this massively gruffty genius of a frontdude:

Image

Poor Sparky. I cling to the belief that if he could hold his head together long enough, stay away from the substances long enough, not be arrested on tour for long enough, not have to be abandoned by his bandmates in another country following said arrests for long enough, then the pure throaty genius of his voice would be recognised the world over for it's indubitably pure throaty genius.

Still, it has fleeting glimpses of a touch of the reproachful autobiography to the lyrics, which is both curious and hopeful.

Mind you, it's got to the stage where I'm not entirely sure if it's stage make-up or just Sparky's face.

Poor, idiotic Sparky.

that new tim gane and sean o'hagan lp

it's rather lovely, an eccentric kaleidoscopic musical box of transluscent deliquescent luminescent ephemera

I've no idea whether that makes sense but I have a gavel in my hand and suddenly went all old time music hall

Of course it made sense. I just can't quite pin down why.

Chernobillies - El Retorno de los Chernobillies

Quite apart from having the best name for a [s]Russian[/s] Spanish Psychobilly band, and choosing that name for the first song they released in any way, it's bloody brilliant. As are they, despite mainly singing in the forens.

my bloody valentine. drive it all over me

i've never heard this song before! it's beautiful.
i love those messy guitars at the end.
the trouble with personalities, they're too wrapped up in style
it's too personal; they're in love with their own guile

Graham Day & the Gaolers - Forgotten

Graham only has to open his Graham Day gob and you're pretty much guaranteed an instant classic, y'know. Within about 10 seconds it feels like an old favourite you want to sing along to, without actually sounding directly like anything you already know (well, apart from a lot of other things he's been involved in. It's still his gob doing the singing and his hands on the guitar, after all. But you know what I mean. Or at least, you bloody well should).

The Cookies - I never dreamed

There's a really shit verse in it:

He tells me I'm pretty, and then I feel pretty
He says I make him happy, and that makes me happy

But she sings happeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee over the point where the song just explodes into euphoria, thus making the song absolutely flawless.
