I really like this cover of Ivor Cutler's 'Little Black Buzzer', and I am listening to it now then.

I've never heard of Elbow, but a quick google search tells me that you're referencing Guy Garvey, their singer, whose brother is an actor named Marcus Garvey. I believe the song I posted is about a different Marcus Garvey, the early 20th century Black Nationalist from Jamaica. Or maybe you're making some sort of joke, I can't tell.

Bought the Songs For Walter album yesterday. It's already one of my favourite albums of the decade.

Had a strong urge to listen to this song just before I left the house today. So I did.

When you think about those Stourbridge bands you generally think they were a bit grubby with some good tunes, but they all had moments of insight when they seemed to reach up onto a higher level and approach beauty - even amid the hectic, clattery drums and the hair and Black Country accents. Neds Atomic Dustbin did it with 'Grey Cell Green' and the Stuff did it with this.

Listening to a compilation calld 'Yacht Rock', a 3 cd set of 70s and 80s smooth airbrushed hairbrushed blowdried high gloss Fiorucci Paul Raymond Joan Collins Cinzano Campari Pernod and cufflinks neatly trimmed bearded white denim no vest jacket thrown over the shoulder Athena Poster rock-ish/pop-ish lurrrve action...

Some of this stuff is fucking dreadful but some of it is great

It's the sort of thing that was always on the radio when I was growing up

The past is a foreign country, put any used toilet paper in the bin provided

I kind of know what you mean - I'm reaching a point where I hear old stuff that I used to think was cheesy and horrible and now it makes me go "yeah!"

Maybe my ears are so desperate now to hear anything that's un-self-aware and uncalculated that I'll lap up the cheese.

So I guess there's a dub cover of the Irish rebel song Kevin Barry (featuring Eek-A-Mouse no less).
