Best of 2012 - powered by Last.FM

Post by islandhopper » Wed Jan 02, 2013 16:08

I feel like fewer people are actually using last.fm these days but if you want to be geeky and show us your most played bands of last year, then here's the place to do it.

Artists:

1 Allo Darlin'
2 The Very Most
3 Tigercats
4 Shrag
5 Meursault
6 Evans The Death
7 The Aislers Set
8 Kirsty MacColl
9 Randolph's Leap
10 Azure Blue
11 Jens Lekman
12 The Softies
13 Yakuri cable
14 James Yorkston
15 Sleeper

There's not nearly enough variation in my most played songs to make it interesting, but feel free to post yours if you like.

Last.fm stopped wanting to scrobble from my laptop, PC and iPod within a month of each other back at the start of last summer. Can't be arsed to dig deeper and find out why. I reinstalled the scrobbler thing and that didn't fix it.

So the first 6 months looked like this:

1. Martha
2. One Happy Island
3. Orca Team
4. Ace Bushy Striptease
5. Methodist Centre
6. Standard Fare
7. The Give It Ups
8. Butthole Surfers
9. Motion Sickness of Time Travel
10. humousexual
11. Frozy
12. The Middle Ones
13. Horowitz
14. Anguish Sandwich
15. Scale Models
16. Joanna Gruesome
not really here

I've been playing more and more vinyl, so last.fm is getting ever less reflective (though if anyone knows a way to be especially geeky and "scrobble" vinyl plays through an app or something fancy like that, let me know).
So (excluding all the stuff on Fika I've listened to many many many times....)
1. Sprites
2. The Just Joans
3. The Magnetic Fields
4. Lambchop
5. Cats On Fire
6. The Little Hands Of Asphalt
7. Bonnie 'Prince' Billy
8. Shrag
9. Billie the Vision & the Dancers
10. Bearsuit
11. of Montreal
12. Cat Power
13. Acid House Kings
14. The School
15. It's A Musical
which I reckon is pretty much identical to last year....

haha...Tom...I was just thinking about the vinyl scrobbling thing...even went down uber dorky ideas of playing the same album on spottily with the volume turned down, just to get the scrobbles :) still just an idea...hmmmm.

Moustache is dead. Deal with it. I'm now Fulhäst (very occasionally)

I make music videos and stuff

My last.fm is always biased because I buy and listen to a lot of CD's, which happens on my stereo rather than my computer. I kind of like a skewed take on what mp3's I listened to most in the last year, though.

1. Nina Simone
2. Bright Eyes
3. Jens Lekman
4. Björk
5. R.E.M.
6. Modest Mouse
7. Beat Happening
8. The Just Joans
9. Julie Doiron
10. Cat Power
10. Pavement
12. Adam Green

My reasoning behind doing it on spotify was that the bands involved would at least get a gazquillionth of a penny every time I listened to their vinyl.

mine hasn't scrobbled for ages (same problem trev has, i think) and i also listen to records so i can't scrobble those BUT my history does show that i used to listen to (and probably still do, tbf) the mountain goats exactly 431% more frequently than the next most listened...so it's ace to see the mountain goats on a few lists.

well, I don't think everything I listen to gets accurately accounted for in scrobbles, this is what I ended up with for a top 20. as it was the year my housemates and I discovered withered hand, well, I understand why it made #1. Not sure I remember listening to the talking heads THAT much, but I did play the heck out of the Beets album. I know my own music is on my list - I do listen to a lot of things in-progess and there has been a lot of recording going on and demoing, so obviously that has an impact as well, I'm sure. First Crush is a Vermont band that put out one album and then broke up. But we love that album around here. yow!

1 Withered Hand
2 The Smittens
3 The Milk Carton Kids
4 Standard Fare
5 Colin Clary
6 Allo Darlin'
7 First crush
8 Talking Heads
9 The Beach Boys
10 Captain Beefheart and the Magic Band & Captain Beefheart
11 Let's Whisper
12 The Mountain Goats
13 The Just Joans
14 Guided by Voices
15 The Beatles
16 Comet Gain
17 Trembling Blue Stars
18 One Happy Island
19 Neil Young
20 The Beets
being nice IS a political act!

I still visit Last fm a fair bit, but don't really do very much with it. I have wondered a few times why an unrepresentative list of what I've been listening to on the computer should hold such fascination, but apparently it still does. More or less gave up on scrobbling the iPod, but very occasionally (usually when the iPod is sat in the next room and scrobbling it hadn't even occurred to me) it will pick up on random scrobbles. Anyway:

1 Regina Spektor
2 Allo Darlin'
3 The Shirelles
4 Anna Oxygen
5 Robyn
6 Rilo Kiley
7 ABBA
8 Pocketbooks
9 Standard Fare
10 Manu Chao
10 Erik Sumo
12 Seagull Screaming Kiss Her Kiss Her
13 Villagers
14 Pipas
14 Au Revoir Simone
14 Aspidistrafly
17 Saint Etienne
18 The Telephones
19 The Moldy Peaches
20 The Deirdres
