new mixtape - suggestions welcome

Post by kofi » Thu May 03, 2012 11:06

Right, my London playlist got a bit unwieldy. I might still do a mix cd from it when I've got more time to sort through it all, but for now.. I need a subject both more specific and less parochial.

I know what you're thinking. The obvious alternative. Male prostitution.

So far I've got:

Morrissey - Piccadilly Palare
The Pogues - The Old Main Drag
Ramones - 53rd and 3rd
Rolling Stones - Cocksucker B***s

Unlikely as it sounds, you could try 'To Cut a Long Story Short' by Spandau Ballet. Lyrically it's a bit ambiguous, but I'm fairly sure it fits the bill!

There's also a Fat Tulips cover, which is probably a bit more indiepop!

There's got to be a Velvet Underground song that fits the bill, surely.

Yeah, 'Sister Ray' might do the trick (so to speak) if you've got a lot of room left at the end of the tape...

I can't think of any other contenders at the minute, but thought I'd just pop in to register the fact that I find it really funny that "cocksucker" isn't censored in the above post but "blues" is.

Is the narrator in 'Dirty Mags' by Blueboy a male prostitute? I've always wondered.

Marble Arch (also by Blueboy) MUST be about male prostitution.

'Rentboy Rebate' by Excess Cock Meat (XS/CM), my imaginary grindcore / screamo band from the late 80's fits the bill perfectly.

this subject has had a MUCH higher response than I expected. thanks for the suggestions, admittedly I didn't specify that bands should be non-imaginary ;)

can anyone confirm the rumour that Black Randy was not in fact a) black or b) randy?

(a) yes, although he covered james brown's "say it loud - i'm black & i'm proud" (b) he wasn't named randy but i'm sure he had his moments.

I feel this is as good a place as any to let people know that Black Randy & the Metrosquad are now available as a coffee mug..

WHAT.

Anyone ever see the movie Fabulous Stains, where Black Randy gets beaten up by the singer of the punk band? And then he goes and gets a sombrero and is "Mexican Randy."

One more male prostitution song, this time from the proper pop charts. Really really:
