Huh funny you mention Cave , after I left my 1st wife , about 2 months after , I played by the time I get to phoenix 5 or 6 times in a row . I bawled my eyes out . I still find it hard to hear again.

There's something absolutely beautiful about how everything fits together in this song (and video). I never got to see them play but I reckon Luggage are one of the great lost bands. The name Luggage appeals to my sense of ..something, too.

the trouble with personalities, they're too wrapped up in style
it's too personal; they're in love with their own guile

That's really nice, David. I'm guessing they were an Irish band?

Yeah, Dublin, I think. There were some amazing bands in Dublin in the 90s that were always a bit under the radar (though I was a bit too young then to see many of them, except the Jubilee Allstars a few times) grouped (in my mind anyway) more by a sense of independence than by what kind of music they were each making. I suppose there's little ad hoc scenes like that always popping up and disappearing.

This acoustic version of 'Goes So Slow' by Even As We Speak, blogged by Anorak's very own shaved head thrills.

Oh wow, that's wonderful. I love that song so much but it sounds completely different with Mary singing it, doesn't it?

And it's got those capture-the-moment kind of lyrics and a tune that reflects the words with that slow/fast/slow thing. Oh.

Prolapse's 'Burgundy Spine' is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard, despite it bringing back memories of lonely bedsits and poverty. It sounds so simple to play, too. But it probably isn't, because I don't anything about music at all.

I have to say that "river phoenix" by Roommate always gets to me.

And right now I am listening to "the boy hairdresser" by Tompaulin and yes that one always sends shivers down my back too ... and everytime I listen to it tears almost well up in my eyes (tears from joy because it is such a gorgeous song, but also tears because it sounds so hopelessly sad ...).
I miss Tompaulin ! They seemed such a passionate band. On a par with Comet Gain in my opinion.

He was *way* cute. I heart that song too!

Their albums were a big letdown though. Three good songs at the start and the rest was really dull.
no way! Joy is one of favorite albums ever! from start to finish.

i'm coming to this thread late (or i've already forgotten that i posted on it, which is not unlikely): moya by GYBE! (see, I can't even remember where the ! goes)

I didn't know that track. Somehow I missed Prolapse. I've now listened to it about 5 times in a row. Don't know if it just suits my post-booze, back-to-work-soon Sunday state of mind, but it's brilliant.

That opening guitar line still kills me. Listening to it makes me want to drink Newcastle Brown again.

"there will be feasting and dancing in Jerusalem next year" from This Year by The Mountain Goats was nearly the end of me as I was walking into work this morning. I was tired and hungover, but still, it was a bit of a lump in the throat moment. Everything that leads up to that moment helps of course.

i drove home in the California dusk
i could feel the alcohol inside of me hum
pictured the look on my stepfather's face
ready for the bad things to come
i down shifted
as i pulled into the driveway
the motor screaming out
stuck in second gear
the scene ends badly
as you might imagine
in a cavalcade of anger and fear

there will be feasting and dancing
in Jerusalem next year

i am going to make it through this year
if it kills me
i am going to make it though this year
if it kills me

I didn't actually realise there was a video for it until now

let it ride wrote:'Let It Ride' with Ryan Adams & The Cardinals is completely magical to me. The chorus

Let it ride
Let it ride
Easy down the road
Let it ride
Let it take away all of this darkness
Let it rock me into the arms of strangers
Angels
Until it brings me home
Let it ride
Let it roll
Let it go

Fills me with the most peaceful shivery feeling ever. It just kills me every time, I think it has a lot to do with the arrangement and rhythm of the song. I think it's in my top ten favourite songs category anyway. This much slower version with just Ryan and Neal Casal makes my legs go super goosebumpy too, even if it's not as good as the fast album version:
Oh yes... I lov ethis song, I always imagine being dressed up like a cutey pie cowboy and just hitchin a ride away from all the drearyness.

Nobody's been shivering since January. Nights are drawing in, so a nomination from the mp3oopind.

There's this EP from back in 2005 by Three Month Sunset (look him/them up) called Interpretations of Air. It so happens that Three Month Sunset have just released a new EP in the past few weeks. It has vocals on it and I love it too. I saw them playing a few months ago - well Easter time, with the Zebras and Mid State Orange (a funny mix, but one which appealed quite strongly to different bits of my brain).

Anyway, Interpretations of Air. It is treading the fine line between shoegaze and well, plain old ambient, but I worry that if this bloke started a cult he could get the soft of heart such as me (and I'm such a rationalist too) with this music. It really gets you right there in the guts. I can feel physically sick listening to it, let alone shivering, yet it's a most euphoric sort of a nausea, if that makes sense. It makes me want to jump off cliffs, but only because I feel momentarily invincible. I'll stop it now, but it is ace.

Someone's helpfully put some on Youtube with a naff photo as the vid. Could be worse, I suppose.

I know, it's hardly Milky fuckin Wimpshake, is it?

The more recent 'indie' sound is thus:

Oh, and they announced they were going to call the 'full band' stuff Lowtide from now on, not Three Month Sunset. Wha'ever.
