Is that Superchunk? I wouldn't know them from Adam, or anyone else. My aunt was telling me once that her work friend's husband was in an indie rock band and of course my reaction was "WHICH ONE?" because depending on which one I might wet myself or not care at all. Anyway it was Superchunk.

That is certainly fodder for the tenuous links to fame thread!

She is FOREVER missing opportunities to post in that thread and the one about things that get on her nuts.

If Cuppie's aunt's work friend's husband is called Mac then it's Gav's boss. That's very interesting I know.

Here's my fave Superchunk tune. This totally makes me shiver every time I hear it, mainly because it's a perfect song -

I interviewed Mac and Laura once. Lovely, lovely Laura... Yes. Anyway...
They don't call me Hawkeye Gilhooley... at all

Oooh. 'I Need You' by The Positions, right. One of my favourite songs of the past year or so. There's a bit in every verse that really makes you gasp - I think it goes to a minor chord or something - but I was listening to it just now and the last verse really made my heart skip a beat. The singing goes "When do we meet? When will it be? Or was it never meant to be?" and the minor chord bit is just after the word "never" and it's just completely oooh.

Ah, yeah. That's an ace song.

I was listening to Ride earlier, and the opening guitar bit of 'Drive Blind' is well spine-tingly.

The chorus (in my headphones as I type!) to Ride's "Paralysed" makes me dizzy. My typing may go funny...

This wonderful, wonderful song. Which reminds of being 16 in Grimsby.

No-one needs to see that AGAIN. But, yes.

Kurt Ralske had lovely hair.

Oh, man, that is a beautiful song. Esp. the part where the chord changes for the "But you can taste the fire for yourself..." part.

UVS remind me of being 19. And quaaludes.

I was less hardcore. They remind me of blue label Thunderbird.

Here's another one of theirs:

I'm sure this has been said a hundred times before on here, but I'll say it again: pretty much all of The Smittens Sapphire makes me shiver and crumble it to a heap of sobs, but the part where they "Bah Bah Bah Bah Dah Bah" like crazy in that frenzied (3? 4?)-part harmony makes me positively convulse. It should be a law that you can't listen to that song while driving, because you will run off the road--whether accidentally or on purpose (in weeping despair and embodiment of the beautiful sadness).

being 16 reminds me of telling my mum i was going to play snooker, sitting in the corner of envy nightclub wearing white jeans, kickers and opal fruit coloured shirt drinking trying to drink enough over priced worthingtons to forget the fact i was hanging around with a right bunch of arsey pillocks, then going home and vomiting all over a pile of freshly laundered clothes. happy days.

insert youtube clip of pumping ibiza house anthems.
