Yeah, just watch the video for Crash on youtube before you go to Bieber and you'll be grand.

One of them's in the NME this week promoting the Field Mice.

As for the Cardiacs from earlier in the thread - they were the Muse of their day, weren't they? If you like one, you'd probably like the other.
I guess the deeply involved musicianship of both bands invites that idea, but personally I tolerate only half a dozen Muse songs at best (and not necessarily the most complex ones, either) yet adore nearly all of Cardiacs' oeuvre.

For me Muse are in utter thrall to prog rock, whereas Cardiacs prefer to pump four million vaults through it and then tie it to a fairground ride. A bit of a difference.

Ah yes, Skywriting is part of a feature entitled "The 100 greatest albums you've never heard". As my favourite album ever, I suggest I've heard it a few more times than never! And did it pioneer lo-fi as the strap-line suggests? Really?

Jacob Graham's eulogising of it seems to add up to little more than him saying he likes it and then he plays it too much and then he doesn't like it anymore and then he comes back to it and then he likes it, over and over again, rather than giving any more meaningful appraisal. Everett True's summary of "Kraftwerk meets The Go-Betweens" all those years ago did the job far more succinctly.

Per The Go-Betweens, 16 Lovers Lane appears in the list as well.

Kip Berman gives Allo Darlin' and Shrag props too, though he picks something else I can't remember.

Yes! Only his singing is rubbish compared to, er, the singer of South Ambulance.

Also, I really fancy one of the Vaccines.

I bloody love South Ambulance (although I still haven't got the CD). I might have to check these Vaccines out.

Murray, no! Don't do it!

It's sort of South Ambulance crossed with Interpol, really. And it's only one song!

Aw, South Ambulance. Why weren't they massive on the UK indiepop scene?

Murray, have you heard any of the EPs South Ambulance have put out in the last couple of years? There are some ace songs on those. 'In The Morning' from EP#6 is brilliant. I could make a cd for you if you wanted. I wish they would come play over here, dammit. I'd go.

I didn't know The Vaccines until last Saturday when 6 Music played that 'Wreckin' Bar' song and I thought, hmmm. I never think 'hmmm'. I mean, it's nothing special but it's short and catchy, and a bit dirty. They make me sick though, obviously.

Wow, I'd love a CD if that's OK please, M. I've not heard the EPs at all.
I used to be able to listen to the full 'streamed' (?) CD on the net, but alas, no more. Quite why songs like Die 5 Times Times 5 and Hanging in a Tie aren't the indiepop equivalent of household names is, quite frankly, a bit of a mystery.

The Source feat. Candi Staton's 1996 version of You've Got The Love (New Voyager Radio Mix (of course)) came on my ipod yesterday and I still think it sounds bloody great. Maybe that's credible these days though because you can I liked it before that bloody Florence & The Machine version.

And it's about Jesus.

I like that Vaccines song; none of them do much for me though, not compared to the guitarist from Standard Fare. I want to pinch his lovely rosy cheeks and tousle his hair.

That new Go! Team single is rather good. I have no idea if that's cred or not...

Were you at Half My Heart Beats a couple of months ago when we went on after a 40th birthday party and they were giving us loads of hassle? Someone offered me a bribe to play Candi Staton that night. I can't remember if that was before or after the birthday girl's brother tried to get me to go outside for a fight.

I was. That's the night I walked in to here Simple Minds playing. That song is my next request though. And there will be an invitation to fisticuffs if it's not played!
